When God quits, who takes over?
Among the thousands of applicants for jobs, Soren was the ideal candidate. A nobody. He was essentially invisible—no ties, no achievements, no influence on the world. Just what they required. The perfect deity, after all, is one who can operate in the background, directing people covertly and unnoticeably.
But there's a catch to Soren's celestial job description: the old deity had a bit of a creative streak. Prior to leaving, they constructed a second world that was populated with terrifying, twisted monsters and a ticking time bomb that was concealed adjacent to Earth. Their carelessness caused time and space to rip apart when they left the throne, letting terrible evils fall onto Earth.
Soren must now give people the ability to defend themselves while maintaining a low profile. He can unintentionally bring down the universe he is meant to save if he meddles too much. Soren must demonstrate that even a nobody can step up to the plate while juggling his humanity, his divine duties, and the mayhem of portals and dungeons, or else everything could fall apart.
Because the universe will inevitably become chaotic when the next god is just a regular guy.
