The Lone Star's Epilogue

Suffering is the instrument of existence, and sin is the melody of life. Now, negative karma is spreading throughout the Omniverse. To bring karma into balance in the cosmos, divine judgment must be bestowed upon every civilization within the Divine Omnistream. On the planet Tellus, divine judgment was delivered in SE 20 of Humanity's Space Era calendar following a series of devastating attacks by a mysterious terrorist organization that spread chaos across the planet. They orchestrated a survival game, forcing people to participate in senseless killings that fueled negative karma and sparked a war similar to the one between androids and humanity 90 years ago. Einsamer Stern is an 18-year-old high school student and orphan who has undergone backlash all of his life because his appearances are similar to an android, the enemy of humanity. The young protagonist must struggle to come out on top in the constant battle against intergalactic threats and earthly foes. But he soon learns that this happens to be the least of his concerns as the truth, about his identity and the history of mankind, slowly unravels, with the arrival of divine judgment on his planet. Initially driven by the simple desire to survive, Einsamer Stern's purpose evolved into a loftier ideal: "To cleanse humanity of sin and suffering." --------------------------------------------------- Daily Update: 4-7 chapters a week. Chapter length: 1500-3000 words Romance is not the primary focus, but explicit sexual scenes involving other characters that serve the plot can be expected. This story progresses at an intentionally slow pace, as I meticulously detail every fight scene and interaction to immerse the reader deeper into the world. The Reincarnated Mercenary's Only Skill is Item Box

"No one ever helped me no matter how much I suffered. So, tell me...why would I help others if there's no benefit to it for me?" After being sold off by his parents to human traffickers due to a physical deformity and ending up as a resident of the underworld, a jaded mercenary is killed during a mission gone wrong. "If only there was a way to carry my entire arsenal of weapons without weighing myself down..." As he dies, he suddenly find himself waking up in a younger, unfamiliar body, in an unfamiliar world. He finds himself in a rundown orphanage located in a medieval world full of Magic and Monsters, his new body weak and frail. His new name is Jaedfern Meraled, or Jade for short. But he's not alone in being sent to this world...along with him for the ride is the Angel Arkiela, who was banished to this world for interfering with the human world out of boredom. Specifically, she used her powers to feed and amplify people's impulses and intrusive thoughts, including the people around Jade, whom she targeted to, in her words, "mess with", and subsequently went on to ruin his life. She then claims that their lives are now intertwined...if one of them dies, so will the other. While being uncertain as to whether she's being honest about that or lying so that he can't afford to kill her, Jade can't exactly risk putting it to the test, so he errs on the side of caution. Grudgingly, he decides to accept her presence around him, having no other choice in the matter. With that settled, she reveals that when people are reincarnated with their memories intact, they're given OP powers, usually as a reward or consolation for their circumstances in their previous life, and she then checks what abilities he's been bestowed with. In this world, there are three main elements to a person's Magic...their Magic Class; which is the core of their abilities, their Mana Pool; the quantity of Magical energy they possess, and finally, their Skills; special abilities that include active powers such as Appraisal and passive powers such as Heat Resistance. Each person possesses three Skills, without exception. As for Jade, his Magic Class is...well, he doesn't have one. And his Mana Pool...is nonexistent, he possesses no Magical energy whatsoever. And finally, his Skills...he only has one, titled "Mercenary's Item Box", a dimensional storage power with a number of abilities that can be unlocked by Leveling Up the Skill. Most people who are reincarnated are given OP powers, rewarded for either living a virtuous life, or as consolation for living a tortured life. But sometimes, people who've lived sinful lives, can be punished instead, bestowed with the bare minimum of abilities in worlds where such abilities are everything. And Jade is the latter. However, Jade may not necessarily be as bad off as it initially seems...because within his Item Box, is every weapon he owned during his previous life, weapons that don't exist in this world. Will it give him enough of an advantage to survive, and ideally thrive, in this medieval world rampant with violent crime and dangerous Monsters? One thing's for sure, it certainly won't be easy...

Eden Online

In the twenty-first century, the world experienced explosive technological advancements in robotics and artificial intelligence, government-granted major loans to common households, and the possession of new-gen androids gradually erased human labor from every different field in the workforce. People in first-world countries from the middle class up were the first to enjoy the freedom of time and improved quality of life granted by the household androids working in their stead. With a steady flow of income provided by their working androids and the leisure of time on their hands, people started turning to entertainment for their indulgence. Around that time, Future Electronics shocked the world in 2056 with its first full-dive virtual reality headset, Eden VR. And with it came the VRMMORPG, Eden Online. Jointly invested by 100 countries, which granted half the world access to a virtual second life, everyone believed it would be the greatest source of entertainment for the following decades to come. However, contrary to everyone’s expectations, Eden Online’s high-difficulty settings tormented players instead. Set in a post-apocalyptic future ravaged by disasters where humanity has been forced to retreat inside fortified cities with high-rise walls, players can only challenge the savage beasts, mutants, and infected beyond with their wits, gears, and skills. The benefit of becoming stronger through a leveling system is not a feature of the first-generation VRMMORPG that defined the twenty-first century for games. Despite players’ dissatisfactions and complaints, Eden Online remained staunch in its theme with the government’s backing and encouragement. For whatever purposes and intent Future Electronics and the government may have, Desmond Gray, is one of the rare players willing to challenge the world of Eden Online. However, what drives Desmond to play such an unenjoyable and self-torturous game? Could there be more to the game than what it seems? This is his story.
