His massive wings flutter with each step, lifting him from the ground, until, like a great bird, he soars into the sky. At first, he rises cautiously, but this time is different—this time, he keeps going higher. Jay watches in silence as his son ascends into the night, a shadow among the stars. A sharp, inexplicable ache swells in his chest. As Robin flies higher, it’s as if he no longer belongs to the Earth, as though his true home lies in the kingdom of clouds, where the sky cradles him like one of its own.
