From the beginning of time, the two clans, Deva clan and Asura clan waged war against each other, where Deva's claimed to be on the righteous side whereas the Asuras were deemed to be evil as they committed atrocious acts of butchering innocent lives, meddling in the auspicious events of sages, etc., and staking claim on the throne of Deva Lok. The war has destroyed lives and various Lok's, in the end the three Supreme Gods (God Brahma the Creator, God Vishnu the Preserver and God of Gods who is also known as the Mahadev or God Shiv the Destroyer) had to intervene to stop the senseless war providing the much-needed relief to the common populace of God Realm. All the Deva Clan Members along with Devaraj Indra to the Tridev: "Namostu te Vedagarbha, Sarvavidya Pradayaka" (Salutations to the one who holds the Vedas and grants all knowledge), "Om Namo Narayanaya" (Salutations to Lord Narayana), "Om Namah Shivaya" (Salutations to Shiva, the auspicious one). While the Asuras in the leadership of their leader and Guru, Guru Shukracharya performed Shastanga Namaskara as they did worship God Brahma but for the boons he will give and the Asuras had a particular dislike for God Vishnu as he favors the cosmic balance and is on the righteous side i.e., Devas side but they still showed the much needed respect for one of the supreme beings and Asuras were devoted believer of Mahadev as he is the only one impartial among the three supreme gods. God Vishnu said "Devaraj Indra why must you continue this senseless war with the Asuras? You are King of Gods, King of Swarg Lok then what more do you need from the Asuras when they are confined to their Paataal Lok." Devaraj Indra said with respect "Lord Vishnu it was them who were creating chaos among the sages intervening in the sage's meditation and destroying livestock, so I had to confront them." Hearing Devaraj Indra slandering the Asuras in front of the Three Supreme Gods while not mentioning the mistreatment of Asuras done by Devas, the Asura Guru Shukracharya too said " Mahadev you have to uphold justice for the Asuras, we were just banished to the Paataal Lok from the beginning while the Devas got to rule the Swarg Lok. Why can't we Asuras get the same treatment as they do? And this war was started by the Asuras and Devas jointly but only we are blamed here." Hearing the Asura Guru Shukracharya, the Three Supreme Gods were too taken back as they too were not able to judge them with full impartiality so, Mahadev decided on a solution and solemnly announced among the Asuras and Devas "Very soon we Three Supreme Gods will bring into being a new force which will be born far away from here among the humans and his very journey will shape him to be the bearer of justice for all of the creation. He will be the embodiment of impartial justice whether to the Asuras or Devas for he will judge the being on the basis of his karma so I will warn all of you now that you should be careful of what karma you sow as you will soon be dealt with your karmafal." And so, the war of Asuras and Devas came to a pause. It is the biggest religious, cultural and historic street festival of Nepal, particularly within the Kathmandu valley and mainly observed by Newar community. Yenya means "Kathmandu festival" in Nepal Bhasa. It is the time when the advent of the monsoons is celebrated in the name of the rain god 'Indra'. The eight days long celebrations consist of two events. Indra Jatra is marked by masked dances of deities and demons (commonly known as Lakhe Naach, Mahakali Naach, Lusiki Naach and Dash Avatar), displays of sacred images and tableaus in honor of the Hindu deity Indra, the king of heaven. The other event is Kumari Jatra, the chariot procession of the Living Goddess Kumari. Three chariots carrying human representations of Goddess Kumari, Lord Ganesh and Lord Bhairava are pulled along the festival route through Kathmandu Durbar Square. Classical dancers, mask dancers of deities wearing different kinds of traditional masks and costumes and musicians also accompany the chariot procession. The dancing continues throughout the route to celebrate the visit of the rain god, Indra. The procession starts at around 3 pm. Indra Jatra was started by King Gunakamadeva to commemorate the establishment of the city of Kathmandu in the 10th century. Kumari Jatra, which means the chariot festival of Kumari, coincides with Indra Jatra. It was started in 1756 AD during the reign of Malla King Jaya Prakash Malla. Family members deceased in the past year are also remembered during the festival. The main venue of the festivities is Kathmandu Durbar Square. The celebrations last for eight days.
