The book starts with a girl going into the woods for a reason unknown.., while her supposed husband stayed in a pub drinking. In the morning he goes to see Lyya, the girl in the hospital.
His father's Beta, Charles, informs Jack, the Alpha's son, that his father wants to meet with him. There, at his father's office he's informed that he is getting married to Clarissa Barrington; a daughter of another Alpha and also his ex-girlfriend.
