Ciel Adams is a Fourth Stage Esper from the now destroyed last stronghold of humanity; Bastion City. The city had survived long past the dreaded Judgment Day, a day when The Eternal Flames suddenly engulfed the world and the ghastly Fallen descended. Now awakening within a broken state, and lacking all the power which he once held, Ciel is faced with the arduous task of not only saving the dreaded future which awaits humanity, but of helping his previous mentor. All the while, he must also take it upon himself to seek out and hunt the clones of him with the goal of regaining his past power and obtaining a complete soul once more.
