DEEPEST SOUL
Farion was the son of Alden and Selene. Alden, a man driven by an insatiable curiosity for the world's unsolved mysteries, was married to Selene, a woman gifted with the rare ability to perceive energies invisible to ordinary eyes.
One day, they ventured into an ancient ruin and discovered a strange black box resting atop an altar-like pedestal.
“Honey, is the energy coming from here?” Alden asked softly.
“Yes… from the box,” Selene murmured.
Alden, handling it with the utmost care, slowly opened the box.
Suddenly, a burst of blue light, laced with inky blackness, surged from the box. Alden recoiled, stunned. Before he could make sense of it, the light struck Selene in the abdomen.
Alden’s body moved before his mind could catch up—he spun around, instinctively shielding her.
“Honey!” he cried, his voice cracking with terror.
Selene slumped the instant the light touched her, collapsing lifelessly into his arms.
Consumed by worry, Alden stared at Selene’s face, sweat dripping down his brow. Without a second thought, he cradled her and ran—back to their lodgings, back to safety
