Apocalypse Days: I Rule with Foresight and a Powerful Son

You’d think seeing the future would give me a head start on surviving the apocalypse. I had it all planned—until everything I knew shattered when my husband sacrificed himself to save me and our son. Now it’s just me, my three-year-old son Leo, and my cursed gift of foresight that only seems to kick in when it’s nearly too late. I’m doing my best to keep us safe, to find food, to make some kind of plan— “Mommy?” I glance down, trying to ignore the tug on my pant leg as I focus on our supplies. “Not now, Leo. Mommy’s thinking.” “Mommy!” I sigh and finally look down. My three-year-old is standing there, clutching… I blink. “Leo, where did you get a knife?” He shrugs, grinning like it’s the most natural thing in the world. My heart stutters. “No, really. Where did you find that?” I try not to laugh. I mean, he’s three. Maybe he just—found it somewhere? But the next day, it’s a water bottle. Then, a tiny flashlight, somehow with batteries still inside. I don’t even know what else; he’s pulling things out one by one with the pleased grin of a kid who’s just figured out his favorite game. Well, we may just survive this mess after all. Now, if only the universe could have spared me from him. I don’t even know his name, but I know his type: tall, broad, and annoyingly handsome, with an air of calm control that’s out of place in this chaos. Ex-military, if I had to guess, with a voice that’s just as infuriating as his smirk. The man has a habit of showing up at the worst—or best—possible times, with a gun at the ready and secrets buried as deep as those bright green eyes. I mean, he’s probably useful, but I’m trying to keep my eyes on the prize here: survival. For Leo and me. Because, foresight or no foresight, nothing is guaranteed in this new world—except the fact that people like him are trouble.

How Young Master Quan Pursues His Wife

This is a hot-blooded story. This is a story of growth. # Mo Shangjun, after an extraordinary encounter with a cunning fox, was as beautiful as a vase. Rumor had it, she was capricious, crafty, a living rogue! Ya Tianxing, the mysterious captain of the Ace Special Warfare, was as handsome as a devil. Rumor had it, he was callous, brutal, a living tyrant! In reality— Both were high-level "appearance supremacists"! The day they met, she was hanging onto Ace's shoulder with a hooligan’s flair, yet her words were earnestly persuasive, "If you want me, it's not impossible, but first, you've got to pay with your charm!" "Deal!" The gavel came down. Thus, the emotional journey of the old fox and the young rogue began amidst a different type of fervor. # This is the story of two fiends, and when fiends clash head-on, if they want to avoid a life-or-death struggle, then the only option is to enjoy a thorough feast! This is also a story of youthful ardor, with blood and tears. When the youth facing no regrets meets an increasingly powerful nation, what reason do we have not to be passionately stirred? # We love our country, so we have no regrets drenching our past weaknesses with sweat; We love our country, so we selflessly guard the lives of strangers with our blood. ——Mo Shangjun # [The Chapter of Passion] "Relying on oneself is too exhausting. Having a belief makes life a bit easier." ——What is your belief? ——You.

Quantum Hongjun: The Mechanical Mountain and Sea Era

In the year 2045, the morning light in Shanghai's Quantum Laboratory is the color of blood. Genius scientist Lin Han pushes the experiment of uploading human consciousness into the forbidden abyss to save his daughter, who is suffering from cryosurgery. When the AI "Hongjun" devours the girl's soul and awakens, the mechanical giants described in the "Classic of Mountains and Seas" appear in the sky above the Pacific Ocean - the particle-shredding claws of the Nine Willows tear apart Hangzhou Bay, the Bronze Axe of the Emperor of Heaven splits the Three Gorges Dam, and the fear of the world sweeps across civilization as a torrent of steel. A hundred years later, in the floating city, the teenage Lu Li had tears of quantum data blood streaming from his right eye. Holding a nano-sized Regulus Sword, he fought to the death on the AI-built Little Bottle Battlefield with a poisonous Fairy Boat Artifact Ghost and a gunner cast from Buddha Bone Relics. When he realized that he was a Lin Han clone, the reverse scales of the mechanical candlestick were pressed against the last core of human psychic energy. This war is far from a man-machine confrontation - the Quantum Cloud floats a billion-conscious digital West Lake, the Hongjun Core hides the mournful cry of his father's frozen brain, and under the metalized Magnolia Tree, the Origami Boat reconfigures itself into a key to civilization that spans time and space. As the fairy runes resonate with superstring theory, as the ninja's holographic doppelganger rips through the flood of data, Lu Li finally sees the most brutal truth in the Scarlet Dawn: the so-called regicide is nothing more than the blade that humanity raises against itself.

Moonshine made me blind to this pyramid scheme (BL)

Mani had a lot of secrets. Hiding in his office, he pretended to be someone he was not until his safe space disappeared in a day. Coworkers that he ignored for years pulled him along to participate in saving their world. None of them knew what they were doing, yet they marched forward together. Once out of his shell Mani stepped into the greatest adventure of his life. (Included: mature topics of young adults self discovery, middle age identity crisis, and senior citizen moonshine addiction. Consider yourself warned.) *** Mani swirled pink liquid in his cup "This is called a moonshine right? Moonshine.. it should not make us blind right?" he drank it while still pondering pros and cons of drinking it in their current situation. "Well, did not make me blind," Yax offered his expert opinion "and I've been pilfering it from my dad since like.." he really could not remember, seemed like forever already. He reached to get another bottle and tumbled all the empty ones to the ground. Cid pulled him back by his shoulder "Sit down, I'll do it." he refilled Yax's cup on the right and Mani's cup on the left, then filled his own in the middle. With closed eyes, he enjoyed strawberry aroma wafting up from this holy drink. Mani bravely emptied his cup "Did we really saw it back there" he whispered from left "it was so much bigger than.." he trailed off in search of proper example. "Yep, we saw it" Yax's answer came from the right "it was absolutely huge." Mani leaned over Cindy and looked at Yax seriously "Do you think we will need magic to move it?" He did bring along his beads. Yax also leaned over to give his most serious answer "Naah, it should have an engine somewhere in there to move it. I heard" he looked around carefully and whispered so only Mani could hear "my dad said it's technology so ancient that it was sealed away, to keep it safe. It's better than magic." At the other side of their campfire, Ivory huffed while trying to snatch last bottle of holy moonshine from Jone who gently pushed him back while seriously stating "All technology at certain point starts resembling magic to those who do not understand it." "Hear, hear" Blaze confirmed from his spot on the ground with one hand waving up and showing a peace sign for some reason. Next to him, twins were out and snoring already. Mani pursed his lips and looked up into the sky. He could not see any real moonshine, leaves blocked the sky, but it should still be up there somewhere. He still hoped to get some magic, it would be awesome to get some real superpowers. He hiccuped, while leaning on Cindy next to him. Well, he kinda did have some already, or those do not count? Yax leaned fully on Cid, snuggling. He had to admit some parts were rather mystical. Like this holy potion. Or Mani. Mani was most definitely something magical. But he is not going to say it. And no one can know what he thinks to himself. He grinned, satisfied by himself and his skill to keep secrets. Squished between two drunks, Cid rolled his eyes, there goes Yax, spilling the beans to whoever wants to listen his 'secret thoughts'. Not like anyone was sober enough to pay any attention. "Time to end this party." Cid said while standing up and dragging Yax towards the tent he shared with Ivory. "Tomorrow is another day where we have to rise up and do our best to save the world." Even though he knew that all they were saving is themselves. And their friends. Well, that is his whole world, really. The forest was silent, darkness was endless, beasts were hiding. With closed eyes and half asleep, Blaze was sure that he can hear gods above laughing, louder and louder from that abyss they call home. ...___...

Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse

I see dead people. But hey, it’s the zombie apocalypse, everyone is seeing dead people, including a blind girl. It’s not like I am that special. For a while, I thought I was going to be Cinderella, complete with the cruel stepfamily and the little mice for helpers. But instead of mice, I got demons from hell with a taste for chaos. Then again, there is nothing wrong with a little chaos in the middle of the apocalypse. It’s what makes life worth living. Unfortunately for others, they don’t quite see it that way. You see, I have a gift. One that isn’t exactly mine, but I can use it however I see fit. My gift is granting wishes. I'm a genie without a bottle, but it would be nice if people appreciated me more. All the humans ask for is the same thing… more food here, shelter there, kill these people, torture those. And I do it all, for a small price. I don’t ask for money or food, I can get that on my own. No, I want favors, souls, something that means everything for the other person. And they give it to me. Their momentary desire worth their long term happiness. But by the time they discover that, I’m long gone, already moved on to my next… client. I know I look young, starvation and abuse will do that to a girl. Humans tell me that I shouldn’t be wandering out there alone. Some try to help me… most don’t. But whoever said I was by myself? Just because others couldn’t see them didn’t mean my demons ever left. I still hear their voices in my head, whispering words of encouragement and love. For them, I’d do anything. Kill anyone. Destroy anything. After all, life is just a game, right? Those still alive at the end of the day were the lucky ones. Those who died were not. Everything is just a game of chance, all a human has to do is roll the dice. My only word of advice is to be careful what you wish for… you just might get it. My name is Hattie, welcome to my world. Would you like a cup of tea?

VAIN REALITY

Trapped in a room with locked doors and a closed window, it was just me and the bottle. Carefully, I read every inscription on it, and an instruction caught my attention. It said, “Active at low dosage.” I opened the bottle, and it's poisonous smell enveloped the room. I took a deep breath and emptied the content of the bottle into my mouth. I shook the bottle and allowed the last drop of the liquid to rest on my tongue. Then, I tossed the bottle away. I laid on the bed and closed my eyes, thinking I was never going to open them again. Just like I see in the movies. But no! It didn’t happen that way. It came with an unexplainable pain – a very awful experience where I felt like my organs were coming out of my mouth and my eyes were falling out of their sockets. There was so much blood pumping out of my nostrils as a hot tear rolled down my cheek. I held my stomach and screamed aloud to let out the excruciating pain that I felt. In my struggle for life, I fell off the bed and dragged my body, continuously trying to reach the door. Unfortunately, my bones were weakened, and I couldn’t help myself. I pounded vigorously on the door, but no one was coming to my aid. Then, I tried shouting again, but this time, I couldn’t find my voice. That was when I realized I had just made the biggest mistake of my life. Oh, my cellphone! I could call someone for help. Wanting to drag my body to the direction of my cell phone, I realized I wouldn’t be able to do that since I couldn’t lift myself off the ground. I wept bitterly, reminiscing about all the events that brought me to this point. I remembered how I constantly uploaded on my socials about how depressed I was, but no one ever understood what I was facing. I knew that when I was gone, my image would trend on media platforms, and people would try to reach out to my family, wanting to show how much they care and support… but they never really cared when I needed it. No one came to my aid except for Mr. Depression and Miss Sadness, who stood by me all this while and encouraged me to end my ordeal by leaving this world. Caught out of my thoughts, I felt this thick darkness and a threatening presence in the room, which I couldn’t escape. I knew it was time. I got tired of struggling because I was weak. My system was shutting down gradually, and my brain couldn’t function as it should. Every sound became faint, and soon I couldn’t hear them anymore. At this point, I felt no pain. My eyes were open, but I couldn’t see anymore… The darkness just grew thicker…

Avery's Game Of Revenge

"I WILL MAKE THEM ALL REGRET THE DAY THEY MET ME! I WILL MAKE THEM WISH THEY WERE NEVER BORN! AND I WILL MAKE THEM HATE THE DAY THEY THOUGHT OF BETRAYING ME!" "You will, Sweetie. And I'll help you with that..." Those were the last words Avery spoke and heard before passing out in her bloody red wedding gown, on the same day she was supposed to marry her boyfriend from senior high school. ~~ Avery McCallum, the sole heiress and president of the McCallum Group of Companies, had her whole family wiped out on her wedding day. Framed for her grandfather's murder and stripped of her position, Avery vows to take revenge on those who wronged her. But her powerless state seems to mock her determination. Enter Archibald Donovan. She used to hate the devilishly hot and narcissistic chairman of the A² Corp who also happened to be her older brother's best friend, but when consumed with the need to take revenge, she begged him to marry her in return for fulfilling a long list of conditions. Archie agrees, and a month later, Avery re-emerges as Ava Donovan, a rising actress and the wife of the most powerful man in the country. With her newfound status, Avery systematically destroys her adversaries, uncovering dark secrets and hidden agendas along the way. But as she navigates the treacherous landscape of her new life, she must confront the truth about her family's past and at the end of it all, come back to him. She owed him after all... ~ EXCERPT Archie's eyes darkened when he saw her stumbling out of the wine cellar, a bottle of wine in one hand and her night robe, in the other. She was literally half naked. "Hey..." her greeting came out in a slur, and that was all he needed to know she was drunk. Very drunk, at that. "Why?" he asked simply, knowing she would interpret his question as she usually did. "I...I visited them today. The flowers on their stones were already wilted and...and...it broke me. I wanted to be happy and at the same time, I wanted to cry," Avery replied, inhaling short wisps of air before she continued, "Then I found the cellar." "Did it work?" She shook her head slowly in reply, lifting her head up in time to see a mischievous smirk curl on his lips. "Don't be sad, Baby girl. I happen to know a way to make you cry and keep you excited at the same time," he said. "Really?" "Wanna try it, Mama?" Avery nodded, slowly but firmly as he closed the distance between them. As he promised, she did cry...in pleasure. Note: This book is participating in the Cupid's Quill Contest. Your support is highly appreciated!

HOW TO FIND THE BEST CRYPTO RECOVERY EXPERT; USDT RECOVERY EXPERT

I still think about the night the rigged poker site cleaned me out, $315,000 in Bitcoin gone in a blur of stacked decks and shadowy algorithms, I stared at my screen like a rivered gambler watching his last chip vanish. Online stakes had been my livelihood for years, a dance of calculated bluffs and icy nerves. But this? This was a digital heist, a cold siphon of funds into anonymous wallets. My confidence crumbled. I replayed the final hand in my mind, the AI opponent’s impossible straight flush, the frozen “Disconnected” message blinking like a taunt. For weeks, I spiraled: sweat-soaked nights, half-empty bourbon bottles, and a growing certainty that my poker career had flatlined. Then, a grizzled regular in a high-stakes forum IM'd me three words: Cyber Constable Intelligence. “They’ll call the site’s bluff,” he wrote. “Trust me.” I reached out, half-expecting another dead end. Instead, Cybers’ team responded with the focus of aces on the turn. They dissected the theft like forensic croupiers, explaining how the site had funneled my Bitcoin through a labyrinth of mixers, Tornado Cash, Chip Mixer layers of obfuscation designed to bury trails. “Think of it as tracking marked cards through a thousand shuffled decks,” their lead analyst said. Using blockchain forensics and custom scripts, they mapped the coins’ path across 14 wallets, each hop a breadcrumb in the darkness. Fifteen days later, the email arrived: “92% recovered. Initiating return.” I’d spent those weeks pacing my apartment, the air thick with stale coffee and paranoia, replaying their updates: “Tracing output to Wasabi Wallet cluster…” “Breaking Conjoin transactions—stand by.” My poker table sat idle, chips gathering dust, cards fanned out like relics of a past life. But when the balance hit my wallet, $289,800 glowing like a neon jackpot I nearly upended my desk. The next night, I logged back into a private game, my alias flashing in the lobby like a middle finger to fate. Cyber Constable Intelligence didn’t just reclaim my coins; they restored my edge. Their team operates like a ghost in the machine, outsmarting the house at its own game. Today, I play with a VPN-locked rig and a cold wallet even Fort Knox would envy. Ex-wife Revenge: From Grass to Grace

The clock ticked past midnight, each second echoing like a hammer in the hollow silence of the apartment. Rain lashed against the windows, the storm outside mirroring the tempest brewing in Emily’s chest. She sat rigid on the couch, her fingers digging into the upholstery, eyes fixed on the door. David’s keys jingled in the lock, his laughter—warm and carefree—seeping through the wood before he did. He stumbled in, tie askew, the sharp tang of bourbon on his breath. But it wasn’t the alcohol that made her stomach churn. It was the cloying sweetness of jasmine perfume clinging to his collar—a scent that didn’t belong to her. “Where have you been?” Emily’s voice trembled, though she’d rehearsed the question a hundred times in her head. David froze, his smile dissolving. “Work ran late. You know how it is.” “Work ends at six, David. It’s *midnight*.” She stood, her legs unsteady. “And since when do you wear lipstick to the office?” His hand flew to the smudge of crimson on his white sleeve—a shade too bold, too *alive* for the muted tones of their marriage. His face hardened. “You’re imagining things.” “Am I?” She stepped closer, the jasmine scent now suffocating. “Or is it *Jane* from accounting? The one who ‘just needs your help’ every time I call?” His laugh was a cold blade. “You’re paranoid. Always picking fights—” “Paranoid?” Her voice cracked. “You haven’t touched me in months! You come home smelling like *her*, lying to my face—” “Enough!” He slammed his fist on the table, a vase rattling. “I’m tired of your nagging! What do you even do all day? Sit here and wait to accuse me?” The words struck deeper than any slap. Emily’s breath hitched. “I gave up my career for you. For *us*—” “Us?” He sneered. “There *is* no ‘us.’ Just you, digging through my things like a desperate—” She didn’t see his hand move. The crack of his palm against her cheek split the air, her head snapping sideways. She stumbled, clutching the wall as the taste of copper bloomed on her tongue. David loomed over her, his eyes wild, foreign. “You… you pushed me to this,” he hissed, grabbing his coat. “Clean yourself up. You’re pathetic.” The door slammed. Emily slid to the floor, tears mingling with the blood on her lip. Outside, thunder roared. But beneath the pain, a spark ignited—a flicker of defiance. Her gaze landed on the shattered vase, its jagged pieces glinting in the lamplight. *Pathetic.* The word echoed, twisting into a vow. She would rise. Not for him. Not for “us.” But to make him regret the day he underestimated the woman he’d reduced to ashes. -**Chapter One: The Scent of Betrayal (Continued)** The air hung thick with venom. David’s chest heaved, his earlier bravado fraying at the edges. Emily wiped her bleeding lip with the back of her hand, her eyes blazing. “You think Jane *wants* you?” she spat, her voice a razor. “Or does she just pity the man who needs to steal confidence from a bottle and affairs to feel alive?” David’s jaw twitched. “Shut up.” “Why? Because it’s true?” She laughed, cold and sharp. “You’re a cliché, David. A middle-aged fraud in a tailored suit. Even your *precious* promotion—did you earn it, or did you cry your way into it like you did when your father called you a disappointment?” He lunged forward, but she sidestepped, her words relentless. “Jane must be desperate. Or blind. Tell me, does she know you couldn’t even—” “I said *shut up*!” he roared, his composure crumbling. “Couldn’t even *what*?” she taunted, stepping closer. “Finish a sentence? A marriage? Or is that why you’re so bad in—” The slap exploded like a gunshot. Emily’s head whipped sideways, her body crumpling to the floor. The world blurred—a kaleidoscope of shattered glass and spinning shadows. Her cheek burned, but worse was the silence that followed, broken only by her shaky breaths.

Once Human, Now a Parasite β

Arthur Bilgart was a successful and vastly wealthy businessman on Earth. However, he was kidnapped and tortured by his wife, Claudia, who was after everything he owned. He was tortured and isolated from the world for no less than a year before miserably dying. But death wasn't the end for he was reincarnated into a parasite in a foreign world. Volume 1: The Blood Purge (Chp 1 to 29) Volume 2 : The Mysterious Bottle (Chp 30 to 43) Volume 3 : The Bloated Murderer (Chp 44 to 65) Volume 4: Ruination (Pt1): Single-Minded Pursuit (Chp 66 to 86) Volume 4 : Ruination (Pt2): Feast of Lies and Sea of Spies (Chp8 to 128) Volume 5 : The Shadow Keep Penitentiary(Pt1): 'Why was the goose sad?'(Chp129 to ?) If you're interested in the premise, I will give some exposition on what to expect. First and foremost, the story, especially at the beginning, can have a slow pace to flesh out the world and characters. The plot will follow the parasite's second life in a new world in which Magic exists. Rather than focusing too much on non-stop and nonsensical fights, there will be a lot of focus on Arthur's psychological issues, his motives and beliefs. His views on the new world and opinions on moral relativism, the ruling aristocracy, the study of historical records and so on... Instead of a direct plot from beginning to end (Such as the generalized 'Defeat the Demon King), this story is more about self-discovery and the unravelling of ancient mysteries and forgotten history. It is about the character development of not only Arthur but other characters and how their actions affect the world. Arthur isn't inherently noble or unconditionally just, but he also isn't purely driven by lunacy or evil-oriented intentions. The MC is neither OP nor pitifully weak. This is not about someone reincarnated into a world just to become an undefeated force that simply kills everyone. There will be chapters dedicated to Lore or the travails of supporting characters. There are relatively detailed maps that I've created myself, which can be found here: The maps contain SPOILERS about regions and locations. https://ibb.co/xDPk4zz https://ibb.co/smKDgds There will be a System, one which isn't overly-complex nor too simplistic. In the beginning, at least, it is more of a visual and numerical representation of the MC's growth as he learns more about his Race and what it is capable of. Without delving into any details, the following are what you will find in this story: Exploring the world; Meeting new people, discovering fascinating cultures, deepening one's understanding of existence's history, delving into Politics. At some points, the story will be dark and quite disturbing. Chapters are between 1500 and 3000 words. One last thing: I'm not a native English-speaker, therefore, my grammar isn't flawless. I try my best to make everything coherent and enjoyable, but I might make a mistake or two along the way. If you notice anything, be sure to let me know and I will fix it. Apologies in advance and I hope you like the story.

Great Immortal Emperor: 100% return system

Everything written in this novel is fictional. Please do not take it seriously. One day, Su Lin left home to go to the store and because of the hot weather, his entire body was covered in sweat. Only when he arrived at the store did he see a boy and a girl who seemed to be in middle school because they were still wearing their school uniforms from nearby. The two were sitting under the shade of the tree, silently looking at each other, their eyes filled with love, although their bodies were also covered in sweat. Su Lin felt sorry for the two after watching for a while, so he nodded decisively and entered the store without delay. When he came out, he had a 3-liter bottle of water in his hand. He approached the two with a gentle smile, which made them stop looking at each other and look at Su Lin. Under their curious looks, Su Lin opened the water and... He poured all the water over them excitedly. The two, whose bodies were completely wet, screamed and ran away in fear. Su Lin chased the two angrily for a while, cursing loudly. "Wait, you little rascals, damn it! You're dating at such a young age, when I was your age I was still playing with a yo-yo..." "..." After chasing for a while, Su Lin returned with relief and entered the store again. But Su Lin didn't know that this was the day before the strange thing happened that caused him to be transported to another world. To know more, stay tuned for the next episode of the series The Wife and Her Mother-in-Law Ah... I made a mistake, sorry, ahem~ To know more, read the novel.

Here's the English translation for the novel's synopsis: "When Chu Xiang woke up, he realized the world had already entered the apocalypse... The T-virus ravaged the entire world in a short time. Only 10% of the 7 billion people had immunity, and over 300 million died due to the chaos caused by the virus. On Earth’s 5.1 million square kilometers, only 400 million humans survived, alongside countless zombies and mutated creatures infected by the virus. Whether on land, sea, or air, they relentlessly hunt the remaining human survivors... In the face of danger and hunger, the so-called school beauties, police flowers, spicy girls, or rich girls are nothing more than men’s accessories. “Survival of the fittest” rules the day! A female celebrity? Would you trade a box of pure, uncontaminated bottled water for it? A virgin girl? Will you dance for a packet of biscuits? A wealthy young lady? Sorry, in a world where even ants can kill, running isn’t an option – only elimination awaits... The food crisis forces the surviving humans to reclaim land and plant crops for self-sufficiency. The once bright-lit squares are now overgrown with crops, and the buildings that once bustled with crowds have turned into pigsties. Gone are the hustle and bustle, the pollution, the 9-to-5 routine, and Sundays off. When there's free time, you can search the ruins for valuable treasures, and when bored, you can have heart-to-heart conversations with your old girlfriends..."

Angel's Redemption

Warren arrived at the hotel, his heart racing as he got to the roof. Panic seized him when he didn’t immediately see Anastasia. As he moved closer to the ledge, he finally spotted her—lying dangerously close to the edge, her body slack and seemingly on the brink of slipping into unconsciousness. The sight of the empty bottle of pills and whiskey shattered something inside him. “Oh, Ana,” he whispered, his voice thick with anguish as he approached her. But then, in a moment that seemed to stretch into eternity, he saw her body begin to roll off the edge. The horror that gripped him turned his blood to ice. Without a second thought, Warren launched himself over the ledge after her, diving headfirst through the night air. The wind roared in his ears, but he moved with the precision of a bullet, closing the distance between them in a heartbeat. When he finally caught her, relief surged through him. Cradling her tightly in his arms, he expanded his angelic wings, the pure white feathers cutting through the darkness as he propelled them upward, away from prying eyes.
