Long Feng Is Long Gone

Mr. Feng Shui's Folk Anecdotes

Set against the tumultuous backdrop of China's Republican Era (1912-1949), this novel chronicles the uncanny adventures of Li Beidou, a feng shui master born under a portentous celestial alignment. His birth coincided with the winter solstice—a liminal moment of cosmic transition between Yin and Yang—marked by an omen: every black dog in the village went mad, hurling themselves to their deaths beneath the ancient huai tree at the village entrance. Hailing from a lineage of funeral attire shopkeepers who clothed the dead, Beidou's destiny shifted during a feverish delirium when he encountered the Yin-Inquiring Matriarch, a spectral figure who inducted him into the shadowed arts bridging the mortal realm and the afterlife. The narrative weaves through encounters with Yin Arts—esoteric rituals to commune with spirits—and the perilous Nine Yin Techniques, a forbidden corpus of necromantic lore. Each chapter unravels bizarre phenomena: sentient funeral paper effigies, geomantic curses haunting ancestral tombs, and markets where the dead barter with spirit coins. Blending historical verisimilitude with supernatural intrigue, the story illuminates the clandestine world of Yin-Yang practitioners—custodians of cosmic balance—through Beidou's trials. From exorcising poltergeists in Shanghai's jazz-age parlors to decoding cryptic feng shui patterns in war-torn villages, his journey reveals how the veil between worlds grows thin in times of human strife.

The Long Shot

Since he was six years old, Adrian Nero has always had a dream. Thanks to his father's influence, he developed a great interest in football at a very young age. He loved the way the game was played, the way a team of eleven players worked together to score as many goals as possible against their opponents while conceding as little as possible, he loved the tactical aspect of the game with teams trying to play to their strengths and their opponent's weaknesses. But more than those, he loved watching the players lift trophies after winning a tournament. That's right, the thing Adrian liked the most about football was lifting trophies. Immersing himself in any game, his favourite teams played, he always felt like he was there celebrating and smiling with them. He loved that feeling. 'I'll really be there one day.' He always thought to himself. Despite his father's love for the game, his parents did not exactly support his dream to become a footballer and preferred him to go to a normal school to study and get a normal job. However, all hope was not lost as his high school was one of the schools that strongly supported having sports activities in their curriculum and it wasn't just for formality's sake. Adrian fought his way through, becoming the captain of the football team as early as the first year of senior high. With his help the team grew to become quite a formidable one and was named as one of the favourites going into the qualifications for the intercontinental highschool tournament, a competition taking place in his last year of highschool and his chance to lift his first trophy. That was when disaster struck. Due to work reasons, Adrian was forced to move back to his home country with his family leaving behind the team he had worked hard to put together. However, he was fortunate enough to find himself in a school eligible to take part in the qualifications for the tournament. Finding out about that, he felt that all hope wasn't lost, a feeling that was soon carried away by the wind. Sino Academy, although possessing a very good and well-maintained pitch alongside the basic equipment, was one that never took sports seriously. In all the times they had participated in the tournament, they had only been able to get through the qualifications once but miserably failed to get through the group stage. This was an event of fifteen years ago. Facing a school with a non-existent team and players that lacked teamwork, coordination and motivation, Adrian couldn't help but feel that his dream was far beyond his reach.

One day, another powerful family, the Tian family, moves to their country and tries to surpass the Tang family. In order to avoid the war between the two families, the Tang family proposes a marriage to keep them both on the same level and to be the most powerful people in the country. Tang Jinghao is forced to marry the Tian Liwei, the successor of the company, Tian Rising. He is the eldest young master of the Tian family. During her stay at her in-laws’ residence, she notices something peculiar about them. They didn’t eat much. Their appearances were flawless all the time. They never slouched, blinked, and it didn’t even look like they were breathing because of how formal and polite they were. They would never show their bad side of themselves. They also took special interest in antiques from the Tang Dynasty. Until one night, Tian Liwei left his empty wine glass on the counter. Tang Jinghao assumed that he was tired and forgot to put it in the sink. The red wine was all around the inside of the cup. The liquid looked thick and Tang Jinghao thought, “This couldn’t possibly be regular red wine. What is it?” She smelled it and it smelled familiar. It smelled like the blood from patients at the hospital. “What are you doing?” Tian Liwei took the glass from her. “What is that?” “My special wine.” “It smells like blood.” “And.... what if it is?” He walked towards her as she took a few steps back. Then, Tian Liwei put his hands on the counter behind her to trap her. “Dr. Tang, I’m out of my favorite drink. How will I get more?” Author’s message: PS, most of the historical events mentioned didn’t really happen. The names of the antiques were made up. The events were just used to entertain readers.
