Lorsque tout espoir semblait perdu, quelques élus se réveillèrent en tant que Chasseurs équipés d'un Système. Grâce à eux, la civilisation s'est rétablie plus rapidement qu'on ne l'aurait cru après l'apocalypse. Cependant, un autre conflit se présenta plus tard : plus les Chasseurs utilisaient leurs pouvoirs, plus vite ils perdaient la raison. Heureusement, parmi le Peuple Éveillé, il existe un groupe classé par le Système comme Guides – et seuls ces Guides ont le pouvoir de calmer les Chasseurs et de les ramener à la raison. Ça a l'air génial, n'est-ce pas? Mais que se passe-t-il lorsqu'un Civil est en couple avec un Chasseur qui a un fort taux de compatibilité avec son Guide ? « Cassons, Wonhee. » Ouais, voilà ce qui arrive quand ton petit-ami Chasseur a un taux de compatibilité de 76% avec son Guide. Wonhee a été larguée par son petit-ami de longue date parce qu'elle n'est qu'une Civile... ... ou du moins, c'est ce qu'elle croyait.
