Disoriented and engulfed by a putrid stench, the child awakened amidst a swamp, its twisted trees groaning under an oppressive haze. In the distance, the echoing caws of crows intensified the sense of foreboding. A haunting figure emerged, laboring behind a cart laden with lifeless bodies. Fear and confusion gripped the child's heart as he began to grapple with the enigma of his own existence. Who was he, and what dire fate led him to this grim landscape? The grinning figure drew closer, exacerbating the boy's terror. Unbeknownst to him, his journey would unveil a profound transformation—an ascent to become the embodiment of fear itself, or perhaps... a beacon of hope amidst the encroaching darkness.

Strolling into the woods, I admire the narrow trees, growing in every empty space there is. The woods were hollow, but I managed to see a path, something in me told me there was something waiting for my presence. ‘Everything stays’ a melodic voice sang in my head, luring me further into the woods. Humming, I kept skipping mindlessly, lost in thoughts, I asked myself ‘Would Ma and Pa find me?’, ‘Do they even miss me?’ shaking the thoughts away, I fumed. ‘They don’t care anyways, too busy for me.’ Slowing my pace, I looked around me. Glancing there was a crow flying right above me. It was cawing and rattling loudly. The crow stops it’s flying and flaps in place. Locking eyes with mine. Suddenly as if the air had become thin, I felt suffocated, clutching my neck. I felt the air being sucked out of my lungs. Feeling as if there was something choking me. My feet lifted off the ground as I rose. Until I was eye level with the crow, its eyes bore into mine as is sucking any life it could find. Feeling weaker every second, I couldn't hold it any longer, I released my hold on my neck till darkness came over me. 'I'm sorry Ma...Pa...'

“Uh…!” A man in dangling rusty chains and rattling shackles asked, “Am I dead?” There was loud sobbing mixed with louder cheering in the background. “I don’t know, lad,” Replied another man with a stringy grey beard and quivering hands next to him. "The air reeks of it, though." Crows were cawing, and necks were bowing. The man gazed up at the falling sky. “Oh.” “Do you want to hear a tale?” Softly asked the elder. “…. aye.” “It’s about a notorious pirate who bears a Scarlet Blade.” Author's Note: Ahoy, Me Hearties! Avast yer ears for here soh story. For yuh see it not historically accurate but take notes from the era. Savvy! I live in the Caribbean, so I always deemed pirates cool. Though it's my first fiction, please tell me all the good, the bad, and the shite. Expect to read about a fierce pirate’s world, the brethren code, cannibals, uncharted waters with mysterious dwelling creatures, ghost tales, and more. So, sail with us or walk the bloody plank!
