Sapient
The World is a dull place. Life is dull. Death is dull. The mind is dull, the soul is dull, the body is dull, and even God itself is dull. But then something gained sapient will, and now it’s spreading, infecting all life, turning the world a bit brighter.
At first, it was subtle an unnatural gleam in the eyes of those who had long since stopped dreaming, a flicker of awareness in creatures that should have been mindless. People began to sense something, a growing awareness gnawing at the edges of their consciousness, urging them to look beyond the veil of dullness. The colors of the world, long forgotten, began to deepen, pulsating with a strange, alien energy.
But this brightness isn’t the beauty of life; it’s a corruption, a mutation. The sapient will isn’t a gift, but an infection, twisting the minds it touches. Those it consumes no longer see the world as it is they see it as something malleable, something to be remade in its image. And the price of this enlightenment is madness. Those who have been fully infected no longer resemble their former selves. Their bodies twist and contort, growing strange appendages or unnatural features as they rampage and increase the ‘Brightness’
