The Divine Path to Godhood
Jack Smith and Claire Brightfield had been inseparable since childhood. Anytime you saw one of them, the other was not far away. As they grew up, they became closer, developing a bond that could withstand the weight of the world. Naturally, this led to the two of them dating and, eventually, to Jack asking the most important question a man will ask the woman he loves.
"Will you be mine forever?"
Although Jack had no reason to be nervous, he was nonetheless shaking slightly and began to sweat. His heart raced In anticipation of her response. It felt like time had slowed down to a halt as Jack's mind began to race, "What will I do if she says no? How could I move on after losing someone that has become a part of myself, a part of my soul?"
Hearing these words, Claire felt a wave of euphoria overwhelm her. She has loved Jack since they were kids, and now she was going to be his wife. Looking down at jack, who was currently on one knee, she smiled and said, "To spend eternity with you is the greatest gift I will ever receive." As soon as the last word left Claire's lips, Jack sprung up and hugged her.
Thus, Jack and Claire got married and enjoyed many years of happiness. They were happy with each other and lived fulfilling lives. There was no obstacle they were not able to overcome and no challenge they could not conquer. However, fate is fair to all and spares no one.
"Everything will be okay, honey. Just stay strong and after this next treatment we should see some improvement. You'll be back to your usual self in no time." Claire attempted to console Jack, who was currently lying in a hospital bed, attached to many medical devices, keeping him alive.
Jack found himself in an empty, dark space. Jack heard Claire's voice and called out, "Claire? Where are you? I can't see you at all!" However, no matter how much he called out to Claire, she never responded.
Days turned into weeks which turned into months. Claire was by Jack's side every day and comforted him as much as she could. Jack wandered the endless abyss he found himself in and felt his consciousness waning over time.
"I can feel that I don't have much time left. I wish I could have given you more in this life, Claire. I'm sorry, but you'll have to continue living without me and we'll meet again one day." Jack said softly as tears ran down his face. He then started fading out of the abyss.
Claire was sleeping soundly next to Jack's hospital bed when she was startled awake by the sound of multiple alarms coming from the medical devices. Claire shouted out for help, "I need help in here! Something is happening to Jack!" Moments later medical personnel burst through the door and began attempting to resuscitate Jack. Claire was brought outside the room by a staff member.
A while later, the medical personnel exited Jack's room with grave expressions. The doctor walked over to Claire with his head sunken low and said, "I'm sorry Mrs. Smith, we didn't Everything we could, but your husband has passed." Claire felt a deep pain in her chest; it felt like the doctor had just stabbed her in the heart. "How could this happen? Why did God so cruelly snatch my husband from me?" Claire's thoughts were sporadic as she attempted to reason with the event that had just occurred.
Jack awoke to find himself in an unfamiliar place. Looking around at his surroundings in a daze, Jack thought to himself, "Where am I? Didn't I die? How exactly did I get here? Is this perhaps the afterlife?"
Suddenly, a semi-transparent window conatiang a message appeared in front of Jack. It simply said:
"Welcome to the divinity system."
