She glanced at the mirror, catching a glimpse of her reflection-eyes wild, lips trembling. With a deep breath, she dialed 911. "Police emergency," a calm voice answered. "Come to 123 Maple Street," Jane's voice was urgent, laced with desperation. "Unless it's going to be a vulture's desire..." "Ma'am, can you explain what's happening?" The dispatcher's tone shifted from routine to concerned. "No time!" Jane interrupted, panic rising within her. "Just come!... As she hung up, the silence felt suffocating. Memories flooded her mind-her ex-boyfriend's betrayal with her former best friend, the gut-wrenching pain of being replaced. She could almost hear their laughter echoing in her ears, mocking her.
