Oedon Chapel Dweller

The Erratum

“Aegir..” A single word remains in Cetas’ mind as he succumbs to the everlasting pressure of the depths - a glimmer of light filtering from above. He floats endlessly, the tidal currents rushing his body to who-knows-where yet he remains unconscious as the word echoes in his mind. He no longer remembers any memories that he once had but only mere fragments of what his past once was. A depth-dweller. A long lost race of ancient, forgotten in history as humans usurped the throne of the world, claiming superiority amongst other races of legend. After the war of mystics, only humans endured to live and gather themselves once more - dominating the entire world by force. Yet, depth dwellers remained - hidden and forgotten. And now.. The first would rise up on the surface. For hours upon hours, Cetas let the currents take him away, rendering his consciousness useless everytime he woke up. But now, it seemed that a warm and radiating light pierced his very pressurized skin. It was.. unfamiliar. He opened his eyes only to be greeted by a rocking hull, shaking synchronously with the sound of crashing waves. Yet, somewhere near him, he heard a faint and soft voice speaking a foreign language. He shifted his head to the direction of the voice and saw an unfamiliar face of a golden-haired lady with sea-like blue eyes, staring at him with utmost curiosity. The lady opened her mouth and let out another wave of unfamiliar words. Perplexed, Cetas sat up slowly, moving his body sluggishly. He then gazed at his surroundings, first staring at the massive rocking hull and onto the wooden floor and to the people surrounding him. Some wore bandanas and others wore white-loose blouses paired with leather boots and tricorn hats. However, Cetas wasn’t at all surprised by the unfamiliar scenery. But rather, he gazed above the sky, reaching far beyond the clouds, and saw the burning sphere of light that penetrated his deep-black eyes. Upon staring for 5 seconds he instinctively winced in pain. “Ow!” He looked around once more, pacing his head back and forth towards the unfamiliar people around him, and pondered, “Where am I?”

Deceived by the Veil

Althea stood at the doorway of the bridal suite, her heart heavy with a weight she couldn't shake. The dress lay on the bed, pristine and untouched, a cruel reminder of everything she had lost. It wasn't supposed to be her walking down the aisle, pledging herself to a man she barely knew. But here she was, forced to step into her sister's place. Her sister's choice to leave had devastated her. She had rejected a life that demanded sacrifice and duty, choosing freedom over family. And Althea, for all her anger and confusion, was left with no choice but to save the family's reputation. She had to wear the dress, say the vows, and marry a man she didn't love. Her fingers trembled as she adjusted the veil, staring at her reflection. She looked perfect-beautiful, poised-but she didn't feel that way. She felt like a shadow, a replacement for the woman who should've been here. The weight of the gown suffocated her as she prepared to step into a life that wasn't hers to claim. She wasn't ready for this. She wasn't ready to marry him. But with every step she took toward the chapel, the reality set in. There was no turning back. And there, at the altar, stood Elijah. His eyes locked on hers as she approached, his gaze intense, unreadable. A faint smile curved his lips, one she couldn't quite decipher, but there was something in it that made her blood run cold. Satisfaction. He looked at her as if she were an object, something to be claimed. With each step, his smile deepened, pleased with what was walking toward him. He wasn't looking at her as a woman to be loved. He was looking at her as a prize, something that had finally fallen into his grasp. Althea's throat tightened. She couldn't turn back now, not with everyone watching. As she reached the altar, she realized the vows she was about to speak weren't hers to make. They had been written for her sister, and now she would speak them, to a man who had claimed her sister's life and was now claiming hers by default.

The curse of the Queen de Chandor

"The people of Cavorim, Chandor were happy and prosperous, when suddenly one night the city was invaded by the enemy who murdered the King and many of the inhabitants. The princesses and the ladies of the Court destroyed their jewels and committed suicide by drowning themselves into the river, which, it is popularly believed, still leaves gold powder on the shore. The tradition associated with the Fort is that the Queen who was absent in some other part of the Kingdom, visited the city one day, but found it in desolation and was given the sad news of her husband' demise. As a sign of her grief she removed her jewels, crushed them and threw them all over the place, and cursed the women of Chandor, wishing them all to be like herself. She came out of the fortress and, stamping her feet four times, said she would not take away any thing, not even the dust of her feet from the city..". The stone bearing the anklet-prints is located near the Chapel of St. Joaquim, the curse of the 'Stone', is still dreaded by the villagers of Chandor, as it is believed to be striking a particular caste of Chandor. It has not affected the population of other castes in this village. The fear of the curse goes to such an extent that it is understood that several landlords of this caste have taken up residences in Margao or elsewhere and their palatial houses are deserted. The curse of the Queen, as taken from one of the old residents of Chandor and transmitted through generations by word of mouth, is believed to be worded."
