A Golden Piece of Bread
Humanity’s greatest calamity, the war of Miseria, raged for 15 years in the 1800s, a conflict so ruthless it made demons seem merciful.
Every nation took part—the powerful waged war like beasts, while smaller nations struggled to survive. By the time the bloodshed ended, over one-seventh of the world’s population had perished,
leaving 200 million bodies rotting across cities, rivers, and mountains. Starvation took countless more, and the war’s damages exceeded one trillion. The world drowned in the scent of blood, decay, and endless cries of suffering.
And yet, no one knew why the war had started. Whenever people demanded answers, governments repeated only one chilling phrase:
"There is a devil beneath the Atlantic Ocean. Whoever tames it will rule the world."
Now, seven years later, the world is still recovering. The Industrial Revolution has ignited rapid progress, but the scars of war remain deep. In the city of Akuro, located in the heart of the Atlantic, an 8-year-old boy, Shin, and his younger sister search desperately for their missing mother.
Their struggle for survival leads them onto a path tangled with secrets—secrets that could reveal the true cause of Miseria and change the course of history itself.
But some truths are better left buried.
