The world underwent a drastic transformation with the emergence of dimensional gates, portals leading to realms teeming with monsters. In response, humanity awakened mana, granting individuals unique powers determined by their genetics. While the potency of these abilities varied, everyone possessed the potential for growth through rigorous training.
Faced with the constant threat of monstrous incursions, humans began training those with superpowers, effectively creating a new class of superheroes. The allure of celebrity and heroism attracted many, but the prospect of wielding power for nefarious purposes drew an equally significant number of villains.
Amidst this chaos of superheroes, villains, monsters, and the mysterious origins of the dimensional gates, lived Jay Carter. Orphaned at the age of five, he was adopted into a family that already had a daughter. Unfortunately, he endured neglect and abuse from his adoptive parents. His stepsister, Amara, however, offered him unwavering support and care.
The situation deteriorated further when Amara became one of the first in the Carter family to awaken mana, revealing extraordinary superpowers. Jay was relegated to the role of an outcast, overshadowed and ignored.
Frustration simmered within him, fueled by years of parental neglect and physical and verbal abuse. However, his life took a dramatic turn when he, too, awakened his powers – powers far more sinister than anyone anticipated.
Jay possessed the ability to steal and enhance the powers of others. Unlike his peers, he wasn't limited to a single ability; he could acquire and wield multiple powers. Furthermore, he was not constrained by his initial ability grade; he could continuously steal superior abilities or upgrade his existing ones.
This extraordinary power came with a dark caveat: he could only acquire new abilities by killing others and devouring their mana core!
