The two men were at loggerheads, as if they were ready to draw swords.
An Yibei said in a nonchalant voice, "Whatever she's gone through, what does it have anything to do with you? Who are you to question her past?"
Sheng Yize clenched his fists with a scowl. "Mr. An, you better not let me find out that she was ill-treated."
Although An Yibei had never been particularly nice to him right from the beginning, Sheng Yize had called him "Brother An" like An Xiaxia did out of respect. However, he was addressing him as "Mr. An" now, clearly indicating that he was no longer on the same side as An Yibei.
It was also a gesture which said that he would protect An Xiaxia no matter what.
An Yibei smiled coldly. "Even if I tell you, what can you do? For better or worse, my father and I have been the people by her side all these years, not you."
Sheng Yize fell silent.
