In a secluded alley, Thales, shrouded in a cloak, stepped down from the carriage, sandwiched between Conmuto and Golov, similarly disguised.
The two vigilantly looked around them, resembling guilty patrons sneaking around behind their wives to seek pleasure.
Golov led the way, deftly navigating through doorways, taking twists and turns at different alleys and windows (while skillfully avoiding overhanging clothes racks and sloshing dirty water), and finally arrived at the back door of a mysterious large house.
The path they took was uneven and filthy, and along the way, they encountered several beggars with wary gazes, which made Thales feel as if he were in a trance, reminiscent of his childhood.
"I'm feeling a bit dizzy... We're just trying to lay low," Conmuto said, rubbing the forehead he accidentally bumped into a window, studying the wooden door in front of him:
"But where exactly are we? This better not be some disreputable illegal dive…"
