This is a description of Dongting Lake from the "Record of Yueyang Tower".
We have no knowledge of the scene a thousand years ago, but a thousand years later, people truly experienced the sorrowful sight of "the sun and stars obscured, the mountains' silhouettes hidden" through persistent rain.

The dense curtain of rain, too thick to dissolve, blocked out the sky, submerging more than half of Junshan island. The lower levels of Yueyang Tower soaked in the muddy lake waters stood like an isolated island. And farther away, the vast expanse of water had turned half of the urban area into a lake.
Water splashed in all directions, and the cold tower appeared desolate.
