According to Gu Yu's rudimentary understanding, there are roughly three types of life in the Soul Realm.
One type, which is the most numerous, comprises the infinite, lingering spirits and wild ghosts. When humans and animals die, they leave behind spirits; even dead flowers, grass, and trees produce something akin to a spirit.
Some, every seven days, would merge into a new soul and return to the elements. Others, weighed down by deep obsessions, would forever wander in the Soul Realm.
There are also Taoist Spells and necromancy, which can summon these lingering spirits. These practices are not rejected by the rules because they align with the laws of the world, in accordance with the Tao.
