Returning to the eastern quarters, he looked up at the living room clock. It was only three in the afternoon. Zheng Tan turned on the computer and made a quick search. He was surprised to have found an entire thread on cat owners who discovered their cats taking items from their neighbors. Someone had even posted a link video of them filming their cat discreetly. Their cat had brought a stuffed animal from somewhere in the middle of the night.

Threads like this were well more than enough, but in reality, there was much more flexibility. The people who looked for loopholes weren't in scarcity either. Zheng Tan flicked his tail, he couldn't digest anymore of what was being said. Simply talking wasn't going to get anything done. He continued forward in a run.
工地那边,周围依旧是蓝色的建筑围挡,不过,里面建起的楼是挡不住的,进度还不错,希望这边能早点完工,郑叹也多个娱乐的场所.
The construction site was surrounded by old blue construction enclosures. However, it couldn't block the view to the building that was being erected inside. Progress was coming along well. Hopefully they could finish up early, then he'd have another playground to explore.
正看着,郑叹突然听到有人在叫自己的名字,侧头望过去,有段时间没见的钟言正戴着安全帽穿着工作服提着一堆不知道是什么的东西走过来.
As he took in the spectacle, he turned to the sound of his name being called out. Looking over, he saw Zhong Yan. Now he hadn't seen this guy for quite some time. Dressed in his work uniform and a safety hat on top his head, he walked over with something under his arm.
郑叹没想到今天这时候会碰到钟言,算算时间,这孩子好像确实到了放月假的时候,高三每个假期之前都意味着模拟考试,不过,看钟言的样子不像有太大的压力.
Zheng Tan would have never imagined that he would meet up with Zhong Yan today. Calculating the dates, he realized it made sense that a 12th grader would be out and about. They were on holidays. Whenever it wasn't a holiday, 12th graders would be immersed in the very significant mock tests. But look at Zhong Yan's expression, this brat wasn't under too much pressure.
"嘿,你今天怎么过来了."
"Hey, you came over today."
钟言往边上走,他本来就打算在边上休息一下,没先到会看到郑叹.
Zhong Yan continued walking to the side. He originally wanted to take a short break on the side and didn't expect to meet Zheng Tan out here.

"知道不,最近工地来了一只猫,跟你长得差不多,也是全黑的,刚开始宁哥他们还以为是你来了呢,好吃好喝伺候着,不过最后是我认了出来."说起这个钟言还挺得意.
"Did you know, recently, there's been a cat that's been wandering around this construction site. It looked a lot like you, a completely black cat. At first big bro Ning and the others that you had come back to pay us a visit. So they brought out good food and drink for that cat. But I was the one who figured out that it wasn't you." Zhong Yan beamed with pride.
"那只黑猫一般都是晚上过来,转一圈就走,宁哥他们说大概是工地这边有耗子了,把猫给引过来的.可是我瞧着那只猫也不像是流浪猫.那只黑猫戒心很重,还凶,宁哥他们逗的时候被挠过,听说工地上有人在知道那只猫不是你之后还想将那只猫套住下锅,一直没成功."
"That cat is usually here in the evening. It walks around the vicinity and leaves. Brother Ning thinks the cat only here because of the recent appearance of rats. 郑叹原本也没多往心里去,一只跟自己长得比较像的猫而已,没什么大不了的,黑猫多得是.可是,钟言下一句话就让郑叹心中一凛.
At first Zheng Tan let the words flow in one ear and out the other. It was just a cat that looked like him. No big deal. There were so many black cats out there. But it was what Zhong Yan said next that caught Zheng Tan's attention.
"说回来,最近工地上也发生了一些事,有几个人的钱包不见了,听说是喝酒了没注意,估计被谁顺手捞走,现在大家都将自己的钱包藏得好好的.哎,工地上就这样,乱得很."钟言感慨.
"But back to the matter at hand. Recently, some really strange things have been occurring on the site. Some guys claim that their wallet's have gone missing. I heard that it was because they weren't paying attention when they were drinking. Someone must have easily removed it in the meantime. Now everyone is taking extra precautions to make sure their wallets are secure. Sigh. It's quite the messy situation on site." Zhong Yan expressed.
郑叹不知道自己是不是多心了,钟言说这事的时候,郑叹第一个想到的就是将那只黑猫与钱包丢失事件联系到一起.
Zheng Tan wasn't sure if he was over thinking this. The moment Zhong Yan mentioned this situation, Zheng Tan's mind immediately connected the black cat to the missing wallets.
或许是自己多虑了吧,听核桃师兄他们那天的交谈又亲眼见过一只偷钱包的猫,郑叹现在一听到丢钱包就想是不是哪只猫给偷了,而且刚才钟言还说有只跟自己长得很像的黑猫常过来呢.
Perhaps he was just fretting. From hearing Walnut's conversation and his first handed observation of the wallet thieving cat, his brain automatically linked the thieving cat to the missing wallets. Moreover, Zhong Yan had said the black cat that frequented the site was very similar to him.
不管是不是自己多虑了,郑叹决定还是小心为上,那只猫跟自己长得差不多,要是真和早上看到的那只猫一样偷东西,它做坏事被人看到的话,屎盆子是不是会扣到自己头上?
Whether or not it was just him over thinking, Zheng Tan was going to tread carefully. That seemed very similar to him according to the others. If this cat was going to be doing the same thing as the cat from this morning and was actually caught this cat in the act of stealing, wouldn't all the crap be dumped over his head?

Being implicated for something that had nothing to do with him was the last thing he wanted attached to his name. To eliminate this possibility, Zheng Tan was determined to start warning away all other black cats.
钟言很快返回工地干活,郑叹也往回走,同时也注意着周围的猫,并没有发现跟自己一样的黑猫,大概没到时间点,那猫没出来活动.
Zhong Yan quickly headed into the site to get back to work. Zheng Tan similarity also headed back home. On the way back, he made sure to pay attention to the surrounding cats. Yet, he didn't happen upon on any similar looking black cats. Perhaps this wasn't the right time and cat simply wasn't on its way out yet.
这日,吃完晚饭,焦妈被同事叫去校内广场那边跳舞去了,现在气温并不低,她们也不窝在体育馆,直接在广场上活动,过去的老师还挺多.
After dinner, Mama Jiao was invited out by her coworker to join in on dancing in the school plaza. The temperature outside now was much better, so there was no need to be cramped in the gymnasium anymore. It was much easier to be out in the plaza and the teacher turn-up appeared to be quite high.
郑叹看警长跟西区大院那边的猫打架,一直跟到接近广场那边,想着待会儿直接去找焦妈算了,虽然焦妈在广场上活动,但焦妈在体育馆有熟人,包和水杯之类的都放在体育馆的柜子里,郑叹只要在体育馆门口等就行了.
Zheng Tan saw Sheriff engaged in another fight with the cats from the western quarters again. He followed the group of them till they neared the plaza. He planed on observing a bit before heading off to look for Mama Jiao. Although Mama Jiao was participating in activities on the plaza, she knew a bunch of people at the gymnasium. So her belongings which included her bag and water were all left in a locker in the gymnasium. Zheng Tan only had to wait by the gymnasium entrance.
郑叹正准备往那边走,突然一个身影从前面不远处横穿路面跑过,路径从左边靠近广场的地方跑向右面的绿化带小树林.
Just as Zheng Tan was about to leave for the direction of the plaza, a shadow flashed across the road a short distance away. It disappeared down a trail just left off the road to the plaza. It led into a small forest.
停住步子,郑叹顿了两秒,转个向跟了过去.
Stopping in his tracks, Zheng Tan paused for a moment before quickly following afterwards.
郑叹听着这个小林子里传来的唦唦声,这是有物体在里面跑动与地上的黑麦草摩擦发出的声音.
Zheng Tan listened to then light humming of the forest. Such were the sounds produced by numerous animals treading through ryegrass.
虽然是晚上,但借助周围路上的路灯,郑叹也能够将小林子里的情形看清,只是长势太好的黑麦草以及里面的一些树木让郑叹的视线受阻.好在这里的树木够粗壮,间距恰到好处,因此郑叹直接跳上树,在树枝山穿梭奔行.这技能可不是白练的.
Although it was already evening, with the help of the street lights, Zheng Tan was able to easily discern the commotion within the small forest. However the abundant ryegrass and some of the trees within the forest was obstructing his vision. At least the trees here had some thickness to them and were spaced at a good distance. Zheng Tan immediately jumped on the tree and started to maneuver along the treetops. Good thing this skill was finally been put into use,

Closing in on the cat from above, Zheng Tan leapt down and charged towards it, directly slashing at the cat.
那只猫被拍到一边还滚了两圈,嘴里叼着的钱包也掉在黑麦草丛里,起身后朝郑叹愤怒地低吼了几声,似乎想上来较量一下,但还是迅速跑开了.
That cat crashed to the side and made two consecutive tumbles. The wallet that was in it's mouth fell into the boughs of rye. It got back on its feet and aggressively growled at Zheng Tan as if it was going to engage in a fight. But instead, it fled.
郑叹想继续追来着,可恰好这时候警长和那只西区大院的猫一路打到这边了,看到郑叹,警长还乐颠颠跑过来打招呼,干扰了郑叹一下.而没有钱包拖累的那只猫,逃得也迅速,很快便跑出林子消失不见.
Zheng Tan wanted to continue the chase, but coincidentally, Sheriff and the cats from western quarters brought their fight to this area. Seeing Zheng Tan, Sheriff happily bounded over to greet him. Despite the kind gesture, it still hindered him. And without the wallet anymore, the cat fled quickly, completely disappearing from the forest.
警长并没有意识到自己做了错事,被郑叹拍了一巴掌之后还有些愣,不过很快就又继续跟那只西区大院的猫打了起来,从这个小林子一路打了出去.
Sheriff didn't realize the consequences of his actions and was completely taken aback when handed a slap from Zheng Tan. However he quickly returned back to his fight with the cats from the western quarters, bringing the fight across the small forest path.
心里骂了警长一句猪一般的队友之后,郑叹动了动爪子,抬起来嗅了嗅,刚才从树上直接跳下来的那一爪子,从爪感上郑叹就知道见血了,给对方留了条伤,今天也不算没收获.
He cursed at Sheriff under his breath. What a pig of a teammate. Zheng Tan stretched out his claws and brought it up to his face for a whiff. It was the claw that he attacked with from the trees. Based on the feel of his claws, he knew that he drew blood and probably left a wound on his opponent. Looked like today wasn't as worthless as he thought.
