For the Alliance Leader Spirit Beast Egg update (April 21)
******************
Miss Jun smiled.
Such a clever child.
He noticed that she walked slowly and had just sat down to talk because she couldn't stand it anymore.
"Calling for a sedan chair would seem a bit extravagant and might invite speculation," Fang Chengyu said. "Why not let me carry you back? We are husband and wife, after all. It might be extravagant, but it's also quite romantic."
Miss Jun laughed out loud and wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning on his back.
"Can you carry me?" she laughed, pinching his somewhat slender shoulders.
Fang Chengyu had already steadily picked her up.
"Cousin, I am a man, after all," he said with a bit of grievance. "Don't look down on me."
Miss Jun laughed again.
Fang Chengyu carried her out the door and down the street. Naturally, this scene drew the astonished gazes of the maidservants in the house, who then shyly giggled and darted away.
Fang Chengyu ignored these gazes and walked on with more vigor, though his steps were not fast.
"Is it okay? Do you still have the strength?" Miss Jun asked.
Fang Chengyu didn't joke as before but silently lowered his head.
"If it's too hard, there's no shame. I can walk by myself," Miss Jun laughed, pressing on his shoulder. "After all, you've just recovered."
Fang Chengyu didn't put her down, but instead, turned his head to look at her.
"Junling, you said just now that what you need to do is eliminate the trouble caused by the imperial decree and take this opportunity to recuperate," he said.
Miss Jun nodded.
"Yes, that's the most important thing for you to do right now," she said.
Would this child not know the trouble that bringing out the imperial decree could cause?
Fang Chengyu stopped and looked at her.
"What are you going to do?" he asked.
Previously, Miss Jun had been saying "we," but in this sentence, she suddenly said "what you need to do."
So, what about her?
Miss Jun smiled faintly, such a sharp child. She patted his shoulder and looked towards the southern sky.
"As for me, I have another matter to attend to," she said. "A personal matter."
"You're going out, then," Fang Chengyu said. "You're going to the capital, aren't you?"
It was a statement, not a question.
Miss Jun was somewhat surprised.
"You've mentioned the capital a few times," Fang Chengyu said with a smile.
A few times? Not really. At most, she had asked Manager Gao at home about any interesting events in the capital, but to prevent the Fang Family from suspecting, she never mentioned it again.
This child was both intelligent and attentive.
Miss Jun nodded with a smile.
"Yes," she said. "I'm going to the capital for a personal matter."
Going to the capital indeed was for a personal matter, to check on her sister and Jiurong, though of course, this was a secret that couldn't be disclosed.
The excuse she had prepared was that her father had given her a mission to accomplish at the time of his passing.
Because of her advantage in the Jin Yun Hall incident with Registrar Lin, Old Lady Fang somewhat revered Jun Yingwen, considering his connections quite mysterious.
She would believe that the mission Miss Jun mentioned about going to the capital was related to the people who had scared off Registrar Lin back at Jin Yun Hall.
However, looking into Fang Chengyu's sincere and clear eyes, Miss Jun kind of didn't want to use that excuse. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should continue the lie about the eunuch's entourage, mention Yuan Bao's name, and Yuan Bao's status?
And she would also check in the capital if Yuan Bao had appeared there as well.
Truthfully, she didn't like lying because one lie would require countless others to back it up—too troublesome, too time-consuming. It wasn't necessary for the princess at all.
But Miss Jun could only do so much.
She was about to speak, but Fang Chengyu spoke first.
"Take care of yourself since you're on your own," he said.
Miss Jun smiled.
"I'm not alone; I'm taking Liu'er with me," she said.
Fang Chengyu gave an "oh."
"Then you need to take care of Liu'er, and even more so, take care of yourself," he said.
Miss Jun laughed heartily.
"If you need anything, just contact the money business. I'll arrange everything," Fang Chengyu said, not smiling this time.
He didn't ask why she was going to the capital or what she would do there.
Miss Jun nodded with a smile.
"Alright," she said.
Fang Chengyu lowered his head and said no more, continuing to stride forward.
"""
Seeing him like this, Miss Jun thought for a moment.
"You can ask anything you want," she said.
If one resolves the doubts in their heart, perhaps they can let go of their concerns.
Fang Chengyu hung his head.
"If I don't ask, would you have left without saying a word to me?" he asked, his voice carrying a hint of grievance.
Miss Jun couldn't help but laugh.
"Of course not, I planned to tell you when I got back to the room," she said. "Then I would tell my grandmother and aunt after."
Fang Chengyu raised his head and smiled, the grievance on his face dissipated like clouds after a rain.
"What else?" Miss Jun asked with a smile.
Fang Chengyu shook his head.
Is that all? So it was just about whether you would say goodbye?
"There's one more," he hesitated and then continued with a smile, "Although I feel I shouldn't ask this, I still want to."
"There's nothing you should or should not ask, only things I should or should not answer," Miss Jun laughed. "So this isn't something you should worry about, it's for me to worry."
Fang Chengyu laughed.
"Will you come back?" he asked.
Miss Jun was slightly startled.
He didn't ask if you are leaving? He didn't ask why you are leaving, only if you would say goodbye to him and whether you would return.
He wasn't asking about departure, only about return.
"Is this question troubling you?" Fang Chengyu asked somewhat anxiously.
Miss Jun smiled.
This question had never troubled her before.
This question was the simplest one, to return or not to return.
"No," she said, "Of course I will return."
Her answer was as decisive as her initial decision not to return.
Initially, she had planned to fulfill her promise, which was to heal Fang Chengyu, then make Lady Fang keep her promise to give her at least half of the wealth of De Sheng Chang, but as for the Fang Family's enemies, she hadn't planned to involve herself further or care; she was going to take the money and leave.
But plans couldn't keep up with changes; unexpectedly, the Fang Family was involved with the imperial grandfather, and she hadn't expected the Fang Family to treat her like this.
They treated her like family, like their own kin, so naturally, she must also treat them as family, as kin—that was only fair.
"This is my home, after all," she continued.
A bright smile spread across Fang Chengyu's face.
...............
Thunder rumbled and large, soybean-sized raindrops began to fall, instantly causing chaos on the streets.
Yet, even so, the rain didn't disperse the crowd gathered on the streets.
The matter of the Fang Family bringing out the imperial decree to search the city had passed two days, the feudal authority played deaf, the Fang Family mute, and no one had yet provided an explanation.
The people could only speculate and gossip, with all sorts of rumors flying thick and fast.
Due to the heavy rain, the tea houses, already booming with business, were even more crowded. Besides the usual tea drinkers, many people squeezed in to take shelter from the rain, and the place was bustling with loud discussions, with the noise drowning out the sound of the rain outside.
They were, of course, discussing the affair of the Fang Family and De Sheng Chang.
"… that imperial decree was fake …"
"… you're kidding, if it was fake the Prefect Ma would have arrested them already …"
"… actually, this is all arranged by the feudal authority … besides County Magistrate Li, there is also a spy from the Jurchen people, which is why the search ..."
"… isn't County Magistrate Li a sworn enemy of the Fang Family?"
People discussed in groups, some even argued heatedly to the point of nearly coming to blows; amidst this chaos, a person approached.
"What you all are saying is wrong, this matter is actually very simple."
Wrong? Simple? These words immediately united those arguing against this new speaker.
"What do you know? How are we wrong?" they asked all at once.
The speaker was a middle-aged man, squinting and twirling his mustache, giving off an air of mystery.
"Me? I surely know, because I am from Dongping in Shandong," he said, with a strong regional accent.
