The broken branch was a piece of scrap that was unintentionally purchased using several low-level Magic Stones during his time as a Sorcerer-Apprentice at the Black Isotta Sorcerer Academy when he had just invented the Love Vial to obtain Magic Stones as profit.
Later, Grimm accidentally discovered the cut on the broken branch. The flash of ephemeral lightning symbol was mistakenly considered as a rare elemental rune. Grimm regarded it as a treasure and kept observing this rare rune, intending to gain some kind of thunder-attribute ability.
Even for this reason, Grimm had also specifically studied thunder elemental knowledge during his Sorcerer-Apprenticeship days.
Alas, however, Grimm failed.
