Synopsis
“What are you?” I asked, still making a puzzled face. “I'm a cloud, duh!” “I can see that,” I retorted. “Then don't ask silly questions.” I looked at the cloud for a moment before I sighed. “Look, I have no idea where you came from, but you are fucking annoying.” “Stop being dumb around here, talking about how annoying I am when, in fact, you're the one with the IQ of a melted snowflake. Seriously, Nick, if brains were raindrops, you'd be a desert.” “Hold on, how do you know my name?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. “Because I'm a part of you,” the cloud replied. “I can read your mind; I know your thoughts. And I'm here to advise you. The name is Zephyr, by the way.” “You can read my mind? How is that possible?" My confusion was compounded by Zephyr's claims of mind-reading abilities. "You spat fire; how is that possible? And you moved like lightning; how is that possible?” “I don't know; that's why I need answers.” I shrugged. **** Nick Foster's life has been miserable since the day he was born. Chapter 1 - Slapped By The Universe

This is it. Tonight was the night I finally confessed my feelings for Emma. I was on my way to her house, holding a bunch of flowers. We had been friends since college. She was nice, sweet, and just awesome. So yes, tonight, I planned to reveal everything to her.

I was finally close to her apartment, and just as I moved further, my heart stopped. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was like I was hallucinating or something.

Emma had her arms wrapped around Zack's neck, and they were kissing passionately. They were so lost in the moment that they didn't care if anyone was staring at them. It was really heartbreaking for me. Like seriously, I never expected this.

Yes, Zack had been following Emma around all this time, but I never thought they were going to be..... lovers. I believed the feelings between me and Emma were mutual. But it seemed like life had to screw me over. It wasn't something new anyway.

They kept on kissing, and Zack's hands moved down to Emma's backside. I couldn't take it anymore; the scene was too painful to witness. I had to leave. And I was sure she didn't even notice me.

The pain revolving within me was intense. I had dropped the flowers on the ground, now far from Emma's apartment. My heart was broken into pieces. I felt like I was being crushed to the ground.

My life had always been a mess, no doubt about that. To everyone, I was just a piece of trash. Even at my place of work, I got the lowest pay. Emma was the only one who was different. Many people called her crazy for spending time with me, but their words meant nothing to her. Well, I guess I meant nothing to her after all.

I kept on walking, not knowing where I was headed, but kept on walking. With my hands tucked in my pockets, I noticed something. The weather had changed. Yes, the day was dark already, but the sky looked pretty different.

I could see flashes of lightning and hear the thunder. This almost had me shaken, but I was too consumed by my own pain. The ground started shaking all of a sudden, leaving me utterly confused. I couldn't understand what was happening.

What the heck!

The sky darkened more and more, unlike the usual night sky. The thunder became louder; it was as if my ears were about to explode. The ground wouldn't stop shuddering, and this was the part where I needed to run. So I followed through with that.

I ran forward, not knowing my destination, and then I tripped. I fell down; it felt like the ground was going to split in two. With a terrified look, I managed to get back on my feet. I didn't know what was happening, but I wasn't ready to die. And yes, my life had been a total piece of crap. But still, I didn't want to die.

The bolt of lightning and the gloomy clouds had me terrified. And as if that wasn't enough, a tornado came out of nowhere. It was extremely frightening. My eyes widened, and my mouth fully opened. My hands were shaking; I needed to think fast. And by thinking fast, I needed to get the hell out of here.

Seeing that the dreadful tornado was heading my way, I began to sprint. But no, the tornado's speed was just too strong. It moved so close and lifted me off the ground. I screamed like someone receiving a dark curse via owl delivery.

The tornado took me upwards; the force was too intense. I kept on screaming like a wild banshee auditioning for a metal band. And the storm was worsening; my height of terror was rapidly approaching the stratosphere. Being swept up by the tornado, I could see myself getting close to the lightning bolt.

My screams were loud, but became louder when I was struck by lightning. I was struck by a bolt of lightning, frightfully terrifying. The event was unexpected, like a surprise cameo in a Michael Bay movie. And it caused me to lose consciousness.

I opened my eyes to see myself lying on the floor, close to different waste bins. Broken bottles, used cigarettes on the ground, and the place smelled really bad. At least everywhere was calm. I was pretty glad about that. But it was definitely not a dream. And I was struck by a bolt of lightning, yet I was breathing fine, like nothing had happened. How on earth was that possible?

I slowly stood up, scratched my head, observing my surroundings. I was still weak from that shock, and I had no idea where I was.

"Hey, who the hell are you?" a grumpy voice called out. I had to turn around. It was a group of rough-looking men, whom I assumed were gangsters. Their faces were terrifying; they all wore identical black singlets and cargo pants, like it was their dress code or something.

"What are you doing at our turf, huh?"one of them asked as they all began to move forward. I stepped back a little bit, knowing fully well that these guys were about to do some crazy shit.

"Okay, you all need to listen to me. I literally had no idea this was your territory," I tried to explain.

"I bet he's lying. He looks like one of those goddamn cops trying to infiltrate our crew."

"No, no, you've got it all wrong!" I protested, holding my hands up. "I'm not a cop, I swear. I'm just a regular guy who happened to be in the wrong place after getting struck by lightning."

"You got struck by lightning?" They gave me skeptical faces. "What do you think we are, stupid?"

"No, that's not it. I'm being honest around here. I—"

One of them took his gun out of his pocket and pointed it at me. Then the others followed his lead.

I was silent for a moment before I asked in terror, "What are you guys going to do?"

"We're gonna blow your brains out, you motherfucking cop."

"For the love of God, I am not a cop!"

"Shut the fuck up!" one of the men snapped. They all shot at me, but I dodged the bullets with incredible speed.

They gaped at me. Confused faces right there. Same thing for me. And with my mouth open in disbelief, I exhaled a stream of flames.
