With this advancement,280 years ago they embarked on a mission to colonize a planet named Bruno, located within the habitable zone of their star. However, two hundred years ago, a devastating nuclear catastrophe wiped out all life on Earth, rendering it uninhabitable, leaving Bruno as humanity's sole refuge. Thankfully, the colony on Bruno had already become self-sufficient. Yet, the delicate ecosystem of Bruno could not withstand the radioactive nuclear energy that powered human society, which triggered unforeseen consequences. Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 : Vlad Romanov

It was a cloudy day but the weather was humid.

At a train station, a train just arrived and many were busy getting off the train.

A young boy stepped out of a train with a small bag in his hands. He was tall with dark hair and a sturdy body.

The boy went outside the station.

The places surrounding him were bustling with many people each busy with things they were doing.

He looked at his wristwatch standing at the side of the road.

"There's still a bit of time."

The boy spotted a small shop selling ice cream.

"One ice cream, please.l

While ordering the ice cream he spotted a young girl sitting on a bench beside him probably waiting for her parents.

"Actually, two ice creams please."

He gave the girl the ice cream.

"For me?"

"Yes."

The girl took the ice cream readily.

"Thank you, mister."

The boy smiled.

They were beside a busy road so there was much noise.

"It's more noisy than I thought it would be."

A tall man wearing black approached him.

"Are you perhaps Mr. Vlad Romanov?"

"Yes, I am."

"Please follow me. I've come to escort you."

The man took the bag from his hands.

"Please come this way."

Vlad looked back at the girl and bade his farewell.

"Bye-bye," The girl said.

He smiled and waved at her.

Vlad got in the car.

"How long will it take to get to the base?"

"Forty minutes at most."

Some time later Vlad and the man arrived at the Slakvell Mutant Extermination Force base.

The base was filled with tall buildings and armed personnel.

They got out of the car and Vlad stared at the base's main building.

"Nervous?"

The man asked Vlad with a smile.

"...No"

"You won't be going in that place for a while so don't worry."

"..."

The man turned around.

"Please follow me."

As they were walking through the base Vlad was taking in the view of the large military base.

"If you walk straight from here and turn left there will be a gate just enter through there."

"What about the luggage?"

"It will be in your dorm room."

"I see. Thank you for escorting me thus far."

"You're welcome."

Vlad followed the man's instructions and arrived at the designated place.

Inside the door there was a large open space and many people similar in age to Vlad were present there.

They were all there for the same reason as Vlad.

They all looked at Vlad as he walked in. Everyone with different views, some with curiosity and others with jealousy.

Vlad was the examine who got 2nd on the entrance test.

Today was the first day of their training but this place isn't a place that allows time to laze around.

Everyone was tense.

Vlad was looking around the training ground.

While he was walking someone bumped into him.

"Sorry."

They were carrying some equipment and dropped some.

Vlad helped him pick everything up.

"That should be all of them."

"Yes thank you, and sorry once again."

The person ran with the equipment in a hurry.

Vlad saw that there was a pen on the ground.

He picked it up to return it to the person who bumped into him but they were nowhere to be seen.

Vlad could tell by holding the pen that it was a very nice pen. Not something a regular person would use.

"I'll give it back later."

The instructor in charge of Vlad and the other trainees entered the training ground.

She had long red hair and a small scar on her lips.

"Everyone get geared up! We have sights of mutants on the west side of the dome, you guys will be the ones to take care of them."

The trainees were stunned at being told to fight on the first day of their training.

Another person was standing behind the training instructor.

"The mutants are mostly category 4 so you guys don't have to worry."

The person standing next to the training instructor had blonde hair, glasses and an emotionless face.

"This will help us assess the amount of NP your body can handle so think of this as a test, and if we see anything dangerous about to happen we will step in."

Everyone was nervous and some were excited to show off their capabilities.

Vlad smiled because this was what he had been working towards.

"Oh and just so you know if there is a situation where the instructors have to step in you are immediately removed from the team."

Everyone was shocked at hearing what the instructor had said.

Vlad had already known the result of failure was massive but he had not expected expulsion on the first day.

"So this was the reason there were so many accepted."

Vlad locked eyes with a girl.

The girl looking at Vlad smiled and walked away.

Vlad was taken aback but he smiled as well while looking at the back of the girl who had lost the 2nd place to Vlad due to a one-point difference.

Everyone went to get ready and put on the gear provided by the Mutant Extermination Force.

While getting ready Vlad spotted his friend.

"Hey, Kel where were you? I didn't see you at the training grounds."

"I was a bit late so I was standing at the back."

Kel was an old friend of Vlad, Kel lived right next door to Vlad but had moved to Slakvell a few years ago.

"Everyone head to gate number eleven."

Vlad and Kel checked each other's equipment.

"Let's get going then."

Everyone gathered in front of the gate.

"How many will you kill?"

"More than you."

"You can try."

The instructor with blonde hair was in a room right above the place where Vlad and the others Gathered.

"Instructor Kaff is everyone here?"

The instructor looked back with a dull expression.

"Instructor Josephine? You're quite early today, we don't start until seven minutes from now, you're not the type to waste your precious nap time."

"The higher-ups kept calling and nagging me about stuff, so? Is everyone ready?"

"Yes."

Instructor Kaff turned back and down as the trainees gathered.

"Someone catch your eye in this year's batch?"

"There are a few."

Josephine looked a bit taken aback.

"Hearing that from you feels weird."

"..."

Vlad was looking at the tall gate that protected humans from the mutant creature.

"You look good in the mutant extermination armor. Must run in the family huh?"

"Thanks. You look nice yourself."

Instructor Josephine and Kaff came out and Instructor Josephine stood in front of the gate.

"You all are still rookies and as such you will only kill the mutants in the two hundred meters range of the gate. Going any further out will be met with penalties."

Everyone was mentally prepared for the test.

Josephine smirked seeing them all.

"Open the gates."

The gates opened and a strong wind blew in.

A mutant was right in front of the gate and some trainees were stunned but before the mutant could even take one step the girl that had smiled at Vlad cut it in half with her daggers.

Vlad looked at her both excited and relieved.

"She's good."

"She's Iliana. The one who nearly got your 2nd place"

Vlad looked at Kel with a confused look.

"You didn't know?"

"Should I have?"

"..."

Vlad and Kel caught Josephine's eye while talking.

"They look pretty relaxed, are they on your list of promising cadets?"

"...Yes."

Josephine smiled upon hearing that.

"Hey you two get going already or do you want points deducted?"

Vald and Kel quickly joined everyone else and started killing the mutants.

"Behind you."

Vlad dodged the mutant's claws with his swift reflexes and punched a hole through its abdomen.

"Thanks."

"These guys are not that strong but their numbers are the main issue"

Some more mutants came flying after Vlad and Kel.

"You ready?."

"Born ready."

But suddenly a huge burst of energy killed the 3 mutants instantly.

Vlad and Kel looked in the direction which it came from, and a girl with long blonde hair with a mask was standing on top of a mountain of mutant corpses.

She looked at Vlad and Kel and quickly went to kill some other mutants.

"Her destructive capabilities are no joke as always."

"Adele Lara Lionheart? She's in the same unit as us?"

Vlad looked around then and saw that Adele had already cleared that area.

"Kel let's follow her, I'm sure she knows where all the strong mutants are. We can get more points if we follow her."

Vlad and Kel sprinted in the direction Adele went and sure enough, there were many category 3.5 mutants there and some category 3 as well.

They quickly got to killing them.

"She still has way more points then us Vlad."

"Yeah, we need to kill more of these disgusting things."

Instructor Josephine was watching the trainees in the observation room.

"How is the Nuclear Power absorption rate, Miss Airel?"

"Most of them are stuck at 13 to 23 kilobecquerel. Lana Oliver's is 28.8 kilobecquerel and Ace DeLauro has 33.4 kilobecquerel."

"Oh those are quite high but what about Adele Lara Lionheart and the Kid named Vlad?"

Instructor Kaff looked at the screen displaying everyone's absorption rate.

"Kel Firouza who got fourth place has an absorption rate of 38.7 kilobecquerel."

Josephine grinned while looking at Kel fighting on the screen in front of her.

"Iliana Luov who was third has 41.8 kilobecquerel and Vlad Romanov has 42.2 kilobecquerel."

"This year's batch is splendid."

"And finally Adele Lara Lionheart the top student has 68.1 kilobecquerel."

Josephine looked at the screen displaying Adele with excitement all over her face

This year's trainees were nothing like the ones before seen by Josephine since her enrolment eleven years ago.
