The day was coming soon. The Queen knew that if she wasn't prepared chaos would descend upon her kingdom.
The Seelie Court known for being the peaceful one wasn't always like that. It used to be the same if not worse than the Unseelie Court. Yes, benevolence is seen as charming and fair but, it can also be a disguise for the truly ruthless. That ruthlessness cannot be matched by anything or anyone.
Years ago the Queen recalls when her mother and her mother's mother were the rulers of the land bringing downfall to the mortals and creatures that mistook their looks and charm for a friendly greeting. They were ruthless.
When did it ever become what she knew now. A court that allowed anything and anyone to come and go as they please.
No. She could not let that happen. She needs to protect the land and rebuild the former glory that her ancestors would be proud of.
The thoughts race through her mind as she enters the throne room. She looks across the hall and glances at the throne sitting there in all its glory.
The golden hue of the branches that emerge from the back of the chair glisten from the sunlight that seeps through the ceilings. Flowers are starting to bloom on the branches. The ever changing throne is a refreshing sight for the Queen and it reminds her that nothing lasts for ever. There will always be change.
As she glides to the throne her wings flutter and the gown she has on brings out the paleness of her skin making her gleam.
The dark colors of the gown ripple like the deepest blues of the ocean depth and speckled with flecks of gold like a starry night sky.
Her wings flutter and let out a trail of what looks like glitter. It's an anxious habit. Wings flapping leaving behind a trail of shedded scales that shimmer in the sunlight. Only the Seelie Court is blessed with having the prismatic hues that draw everyone in.
A blessing and a curse as some people say.
The Queen on the other hand sees it has a weapon that can be exploited and has to be exploited. Things that are the most beautiful or look the most harmless have the nastiest bites. They sting and have no mercy. It's just the way of the universe.
As she settles down on the thrown her eyes flick to the opening door and her hands fly up to her pendant. She rubs it and she stares at the person in the entrance.
"It's just you. Good." She says curtly with an edge of impending fear.
"Your majesty if I may impede on your duties." The man says as he looks around the room. "I have some news about the issue you have been worrying about."
The Queen stares and lets go of the pendant and fixes herself. She takes a breath and clasps her hands together bracing herself for the news of what's to come.
"Ah. Yes the issue. Please do share Zachariah what you have stumbled upon this time."
Her pendant feels slightly heavier resting on her throat. The angel in a praying position made out of the finest gold hanging from a silver chain.
"I'll have to say I'm sorry your majesty for I have not been able to find anything out. He was too good at covering up his tracks but, rest assured I will catch him and I'll be able to pry the information out of him even if it takes some persuasion." Zachariah's mouth twists into a smirk.
The Queen's wings flutter rapidly like a hummingbird. The scales coming down like sand from the palm of a child's hand.
"Now, now. Let's not get ahead of ourselves Zachariah we don't know what he has done and nothing has been proven yet. If there really is a spy in the court and he is working with the King of the Unseelie Court then there will be chaos. We can't have that." The Queen says as she ponders upon the thought of a spy.
"Of course your majesty. I let my thoughts get ahead of the matter at hand."
"It's quite alright. Now I need time to think about this. I hope you do understand." The Queen looks at Zachariah thoughtfully.
"Of course your majesty I'll let you ponder if that's what you want. Just don't drop dead while you do that." Zachariah calls out as he makes his way out of the room.
The Queen sits there thinking about the details that have been handed over. She's always known she's had enemies ever since she declared that the Seelie Court will be now a "peaceful" court. The faeries within the court were outraged but, how could she ever let them know her actual plan?
The answer is simple.
They cannot know about her plan. It really is going to be a mind twister but, isn't that what faeries are known for?
Known for being the tricksters and twisters of words within a medley of rhymes and melodies. She has heard it time and time again when she listens to the folktales humans recite at night to their children.
They're always saying, "Never trust a faerie they will trick you and lure you into their home. This is where they will make you their slave and trap you until your time is up."
Even if this was just to teach children to not trust strangers it still seemed like the general truth that had spread around the world. The part of folklore that will never cease to exist or ever change as the generations grow.
Still the Queen knows that she had to uphold the appearance of being sweet and kind. Hiding the demeanor that wants to slip out every now and then.
Letting that slip out would be a death wish as the Unseelie Court would latch on like a leech trying to draw out all the destruction that the Seelie Court could do.
The Queen can never let that happen and if the spy finds out and ends up exposing the court all of hell will break out. Well at least the equivalent of faerie hell.
