Chapter 1 - chapter 1: Shadows and Scars

The rain pounded against the shattered glass window, each drop like a ghostly whisper in the silence of the night. The dim flickering bulb cast eerie shadows, stretching like dark claws across the damp floor.

Then—tap... tap... tap...

The sound of heavy boots echoed in the suffocating darkness. Slow. Deliberate. Unforgiving.

A girl sat huddled in the corner, her arms wrapped around her trembling body. Her drenched clothes clung to her, her long curls sticking to her pale face. She gasped with each breath, her chest rising and falling in terror.

Then—creeaak.

The door swung open. A gust of wind howled through the room, making the weak bulb swing wildly. She squeezed her eyes shut, pressing her hands over her ears as thunder rumbled in the distance.

And then, she screamed.

"N-No! Please—please don't come near me!" she sobbed, her voice breaking. "I beg you!"

But the shadowed figure stepped forward, his movements slow and cruel, like a predator savoring the fear of its prey. His eyes gleamed with something inhuman—a darkness that swallowed even the storm outside.

She scrambled backward, her fingers clawing at the wet floor, searching for an escape. But there was none.

The man—no, the devil in human skin—towered over her now. The storm outside roared, lightning flashing against the shattered walls, illuminating his twisted smirk.

And then, the nightmare began.

Her screams filled the night, swallowed by the relentless storm. But no one came. No one heard.

The darkness consumed her—body, soul, and spirit.

The streetlights flickered dimly as an 18-year-old girl stood near the park's entrance, her long lashes casting shadows over her deep black eyes. She crossed her arms, lips pursed in impatience.

Zerah: "Oh Dad, please come fast! We're getting late for our walk, naa!"

Her father chuckled as he finally stepped out of the house, locking the door behind him.

Dad: "You're the one who made us late in the first place!"

Zerah gasped dramatically, putting her hands on her hips.

Zerah: "Oh really? Do you actually think so?"

She scrunched her nose and made a funny face, earning a laugh from her father. Their laughter echoed as they stepped into the quiet night, the park awaiting them.

But somewhere else, laughter was a luxury...

A sharp, venomous voice shattered the fragile silence.

"Sarah! You queen! Still sleeping? Wake up, dumbo, and go find for yourself!"

Sarah flinched as harsh fingers tangled into her hair, yanking her upright.

"Ahhh! M-Mom, please...!" Her voice cracked, her breath hitching. "I—I'm sorry! Please, please leave my hair! It hurts!" she sobbed, struggling to pry her mother's fingers away.

But the grip only tightened.

"Pain, my foot!" her mother spat, shoving her back. "Wake up, or I swear I'll make you regret it!"

Sarah crashed onto the cold floor, her body curling in on itself as she clutched her burning scalp. Tears blurred her vision, her lips trembling violently.

"H-Haaah... uhh—haaah... A-Allah..." she gasped between shaky sobs, her chest heaving. "I can't... I can't do this anymore... please call me... take me away..." Her voice cracked into a broken whisper.

She hugged herself, shivering as she rocked back and forth, the weight of hopelessness pressing against her chest. But just as the numbness began swallowing her, a screeching voice yanked her back.

"Are you dead there, bitch?! Get down fast and do the work!"

Sarah inhaled sharply, panic snapping her body into motion. She wiped her face hurriedly, her fingers trembling as she forced herself to stand.

In the mirror, a breathtaking reflection stared back at her—light brown skin, soft yet striking features, lips that could steal hearts. But her eyes... her eyes held storms no one cared to see.

She rushed downstairs, stepping into the suffocating routine of survival. The kitchen swallowed her whole as she prepared breakfast, her hands moving out of habit. The clinking of plates, the sizzle of eggs, the bubbling of tea—it was all mechanical.

A sharp bang on the table.

"Where's my breakfast?!" her brother's voice cut through the air like a blade.

Sarah flinched, moving faster. She poured tea into his cup, but in her haste, the cup tilted—hot liquid spilling onto her hand.

The burn seared through her skin. She gasped, biting her lip so hard it nearly bled, choking down the cry that begged to escape.

Her brother sneered.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" he snapped. "You can't even serve tea properly, you useless trash!"

Before Sarah could react, a force twisted her head to the side—a burning slap echoing through the room.

Her mother stood there, eyes cold, fingers still hovering in the air.

Sarah's breath caught, her entire body freezing as a sharp sting spread across her cheek.

Across the room, her brother smirked, his eyes glinting with twisted satisfaction.

Tears welled in Sarah's eyes, but she didn't let them fall. She couldn't.

Not here. Not now.
