It was a cool day; the cherry blossom tree shaded the sun and its heat. He walked to her body as it lay under the large tree. He watched as the blossoms fell into her blood, which was spilling into the earth. The smell called out to him. He looked at her for a moment, and then he wondered where her lover was and why she had been left there to die.
He was not in the habit of caring, but he had saved her a time or two. This human girl. Her life was slipping from her. He walked close till he was right up on her; a dagger was sitting in her ribs. He narrowed his eyes; this was a mountain fairy's doing. It would seem she was a threat to them. He knelt down on one knee, his long silver hair touching the ground.
"You are not meant to die here," He said, looking down at her. He placed his arm under her neck and lifted her up. Her lips parted, and he could hear her last breath coming. There was only one way to save this rare human girl with the power to kill demons, vampires, and fairies with one touch. He held her closer; it would have been wise of him to kill her, but instead, Lord Haven pulled out the dagger from her ribs and tossed it away.
Even with her last breath coming, she managed to open her eyes and look at him. It was a quiet moment, and her blue eyes were turning dark, but somehow, she managed to smile at him. Did she even know who he was? He felt a tug, her eyes closed, and a tear ran down her cheek. Her smile faded, and she inhaled; once she let the air out, it would be her last. Could he allow it?
"Tell me, Onna, would you have me save you?" That was her name if he remembered correctly.
He would get no answer; he would have to decide for himself. Would he let her reach her last breath and walk away?
If he did this, if he saved her, he could only do so by his own power.
Her intake of air started to come out; if she let it all out of her lungs, she would be dead. Dead. Dead. Dead. That word didn't seem right for her.
"Know I am not protecting you; I, Lord Haven, do not protect humans,"
He lowered his head to her. "You will serve your duty to me as repayment woman,"
Then, with the strong wind and the rush of cherry blossoms, he bit into her skin. His eyes closed as her blood rushed into his mouth. Even though he was taking her blood, he was giving her life the only way he knew how. His fangs grew deeper, but he had to release her.
Soon, he pulled back; her color was already returning. Her lips were becoming pink, and her breath came back to her, yet she was in a deep sleep. Haven picked her up and then sat with her in his lap. He would wait; the guardsmen of realms would come to take her. He looked down at her. Her face was away from his body, her neck showing to him. He stared at it, the mark he left.
He closed his eyes. "Mate," it was an odd word coming from his mouth, one he did not think he would speak so soon. One he would never think to use, especially on a human girl. Yet now, as he sat with her, he didn't care. He didn't want a mate; she was not his mate, even though she now carried his mark. At some point, his blood would want him to find a mate; this way, he would not have to deal with blood lust. This girl was complicated, and her love life was limited due to her lifespan. She would never do better than him.
No, she was not his mate, though she was.
He opened his eyes; her lover, the guardsman, was coming. He could see him in the distance. It was getting late; the sun was setting. The girl would have long been dead. As the man came closer, he noticed he carried another woman passed out in his arms. Such a foolish realm keeper to fall for not one but two-spirit holders? This vampire, the realm keeper was holding, was like all the others of her kind: thin, pale, and beautiful in the eyes of those not of demon blood. She had long, straight black hair and ruby-red lips, and her breasts were proud and full, all part of luring in a victim. The realm keeper carrying her was named Korbin, and he was far too young to be a realm keeper, but due to his father's greatness, the job was all but handed to him. He had long, thick, white, and black mixed hair with two braids on each side of his face, one black and one white. He was short for a demon male, just short of six feet. His eyes are more honey than gold. Though smaller, he was quite built in the shoulders and legs.
"Lord Haven," His name came out with hate. Haven's golden eyes glared daggers into the man before him; no, not man, boy. Korbin held the one named Keely close, but his eyes were on Onna. Both women were spirit holders.
There were four realms: The demon realm, the underworld realm, the fairy realm, and the otherworld realm.
Haven was the Lord of the demon world and, as such, was a demon. He was tall, had long black hair that he wore up or down depending on his mood, gold eyes, and two black lighting bolts on his face, one above his left eye and one below his right, a sign of pure royal blood.
Korbin was also a demon and, oddly, a distant cousin of Havens, not that they would ever call each other family. Keely was from the underworld, and Haven had very little trust in the bloodsuckers. Then there was Onna, who was a human from the otherworld. Each realm entrance, which was a circle portal, had a guardsman or realm keeper, as most called them, but the other world had long been banned as the humans held no power and often knew nothing but fear. The council of realms had banned them from entering but also banned anyone from going there. But obviously, many laws had been broken as Onna was born, which meant someone not only went but mated with a human; thus, a human seeker was born, the first of her kind. Closing a portal was easy; opening it back up would take three of the four Lords. No one realm had control.
"What did you do?" Korbin asked with anger in his voice.
Haven stood up and turned around. "Foolish boy,"
But Haven was cut off by the sound of two voices, Onna's friends. She had made friends with a male demon named Zed, a potion maker of twenty-two in human years, and his mate Marley, a sword maker, also twenty-two in human years, though both were well into their hundreds. Zed was a tall, thin demon with yellow eyes and short, dark purple hair. His mate was also tall and thin, with a strong build, purple eyes, and long jet-black hair that she wore in a high braided ponytail.
Marley came rushing forward with a gasp. Her mate slowed, stopping next to Korbin, also a friend of theirs. An odd group indeed.
"Korbin?" Zed asked, confused. He was ignored as Korbin was still focused on Haven.
"What do you want, Haven," Korbin spat,
"I would think you would be more grateful to your Lord, little cousin," Haven bit back, "You left a warm human to die while you saved the undead to live, though she can not die so easily as the human," Onna was still in his arms, her hair and arms pointing to the earth. Onna was a fair human, though he had not met any in the flesh. Her hair was dark brown and wavy, and sometimes, when the weather was hot, her ends would curl. She had crystal blue eyes and a white diamond on her forehead, a sign of power that no other human could see. She wasn't very tall, close to five foot five. She had great legs for a human and strong shoulders but small arms and very small ears and hands. To Haven, she was just small. Her breasts were not as proud or full as Keely's, but they fit her body and were probably just enough for a handful. Onna was warmer than anyone he had ever touched, not that he had touched many people. He didn't make a habit of that.
"Onna?" Zed was shocked and stepped a foot forward with his hand out, ready to check her for a heartbeat.
"Do not worry, magic maker; I did not allow her to die."
Marley looked at the ground; her heartbeat calmed, knowing her friend was not dead.
"Oh yeah, and just how did you save her from such a fate?" Korbin yelled, still holding tight to Keely. Haven turned around and then began to walk past his cousin, slowing as he did. Haven let Onna's head turn a bit, showing Korbin what he had done to 'save her.'
Korbin turned quickly. "You marked her!" He yelled.
Lord Haven paid him no mind as he walked away, and without stopping in his steps, he spoke,
"Magic maker, you and your mate may check on this human at my castle,"
Then he was gone.
Korbin was growling, angry. Korbin turned to Zed. "Take her. I'll get Onna back!"
Zed stepped back; he didn't go near vampires. "You saved her; you tend to her, Lord Haven; let Onna live, and he will tend to her."
No one knew how Onna got past the barrier of her realm, and when word got out that a human was here, Haven's first reaction was to kill her, but she was a powerful little woman who seemed to mean them no hard, in fact, she had no fear when she first met him and had no want to return to her realm which didn't matter because the portal died for good when she crossed over. A meeting of the council was convened, and they agreed to let her stay and live under the watchful eyes of Lord Haven since she was in his realm. But seeing as he had more important things to do than babysit a young human girl, he gave the job to the person she seemed to take a liking to, and he, her. Korbin. He warned them both that should they betray his realm, he would kill them both. Korbin was supposed to protect her, and Haven was sure he would, seeing as they seemed to be sweet on each other; in fact, he was sure Korbin would seek the council for permission to mate her, which they would probably decline. But apparently, Onna's virginity was an issue for Korbin, and he needed to feed his horney needs with another woman. Keely was older, mid-twenty-five in human terms, whereas Onna was only twenty. Korbin was twenty-two.
Lord Haven was twenty-four in human years but almost 500 in demon years.
Everything had become so complicated, and on this day, Haven really was coming to kill her. Her being here was causing issues, but then seeing her on the ground, her blood spilling out, it didn't seem right. He wasn't one for second-guessing or changing his mind, but her blood called to him, and he could not deny it, and he did not think much on the reasons that maybe.
