Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Awakened

January 4, 2025, The Void/Background

It's been 3 years I have spent in this void. I have been on a long rest, bound by chains that fed me dark energy, yet I feel no hunger. I always feel so damn jittery, yet I never moved a muscle until I woke up from this long God-forsaken nap. I lifted my head staring at the endless flat dark plain, and called out to the serpents of the place. They were always under the ground until they needed to come up and protect the void. They look to me as their king or god. They never questioned me or disobeyed, not that I ask too much anyway.

I wanted to return to Earth. I wanted to check on my brother Callith. I wondered if he was okay or needed me because I wanted to be there for him. Besides, he is the closest person to a family that ever had, unlike Noah and Tamm Parsey. At least I had someone to feel understanding with. But I have to accept that I will never have a father figure.

Sometimes I wonder if I needed family, what's the point of family if you never get to see them again? I want to see Callith. I wasn't sure how to escape until I remembered that my axes had cut the portal into here. I wasn't sure how I did so, I guess I just thought about it working so I tried believing the axe was cutting open a new portal out of here. But It didn't work. So one of the serpents crawled out of the ground, I was a bit shocked to see it circling me, I felt like it would attack me, but I was more defensive than ever feeling fear in my entire life. I hated becoming evil, I did not want darkness to consume me, so I cared about the earth and thought about the good still left in it. But the serpent did nothing and talked to me about how to get out.

I told me with its echoing and whispering voice. "If you want out you need more than just an axe…you need the Cosmic Razor".

I look confused but I remember opening it without whatever it was. "But I opened a portal without whatever that is".

Then it spat out a long blade, it was black, had carvings, and was around 4 feet long. "Think of it as a starter way to get in here".

I picked it up. I was very heavy like holding a 50-pound sledgehammer, but I still held it perfectly. "What is this thing made of, it's so damn heavy".

He dug back into the ground at said one last thing. "Only the best ingredients you could ever want; a black hole".

I swung the sword in the air and it cut open the fabric of the void and opened a portal to another universe. I walked through the portal and looked around. I was on a planet made of flesh and blood. The ground breathed and pulsated. The air smelled like rotting flesh, I almost threw up. I opened another portal that led into another dimension. This time all the colors were complementary to each other, the trees were teal, and green while the sky was orange and the sun was purple. I opened another to a dimension where the ground was melted and black like tar and the clouds had molten metal raining from them onto me. It should have burned but instead, I felt nothing. I was immortal and indestructible now.

I felt hopeless as to why I couldn't go home. "Why, why, oh f*cking why. What is this nonsense".

I swung the sword in the air and ran through many dimensions until I ran directly into a mountain and fell with my head spinning with the sound of birds. Stars and small birds were circling my head like a cartoon. Ahh yes, the cartoon dimensions, I don't belong there. I breath and told the sword to send me home but nothing happened, then I thought as I swung slowly about home and where I wanted to go. I walked through the portal into a cornfield. I was happy to see a familiar life and found an old man on a rocking chair on his porch. He saw me and got scared of my eerie presence.

He got up and yelled in a raspy voice. "A demon, off my land now hellspawn, or I'll blow you to bits".

He pulled out a shut gun and aimed it at me with fear in his eyes. I didn't want to hurt him because he was scared and wanted to defend himself. It just didn't seem fair.

I approached him and said, "I am not a demon. This is a costume for a party. I got lost in your field walking there. Do you know where the nearest city is?"

He didn't seem the listen and shot me anyway. "I knew you were a demon, ill tell the government".

I ran away to avoid any other violence, I didn't want him to have a heart attack out of fear, I saw how scared he was, It reminded me of how I feared being slashed on my back back then. It was years ago even if it felt like it was only yesterday.

Before I left, I had to make sure no one else saw me because of my appearance, I don't want people reporting a deity walking around. I had no idea how to take off my armor. Hopefully, my clothes will still be there.

I headed to the nearest gravel road. I saw a deer carcass on the road, the poor thing's head was crushed with tire marks over its body, and a red blood stain led to a trail on the floor. I heard a cry from its baby, it was in the grass nearby, afraid of me. I picked it up before it ran, It cried as took it with me for a while just in case predators were around, then it began to calm down. I came across a real road with houses and cars driving by. I looked around for a safe place to put the calf because I needed things to do. "Find my brother". I set the calf near someone's front yard and left it there as it ate the grass of the lawn. I go and morphed out of my armor behind a building. Though it sure felt like it after I hadn't taken it off for a long time, it felt like being weaker. "Oh, you poor thing. I am so sorry".

I forgot a bit about the world so I didn't remember about the safety rules. I walk on the street, almost getting hit by an incoming truck. The driver honked his horn and started flipping me off.

He yelled. "Get out of the road freak this isn't a God damn sidewalk".

This didn't feel much like home, but I think I was still in West Virginia, still far from where Callith was. I had the feeling that maybe he forgot about me since I practically left him alone for a long time. And I wouldn't be surprised if he felt abandoned by me. I still want to check out the world and see how much it changed. After all… what's a home you don't know anything about?

I wait on the road to find someone for directions, and a driver that can take me there. And yes I know "Why would a god that can do lots of things, hitchhike". I felt very much like a downgrade for me. Soon I did eventually find someone for help and I headed to West Virginia after catching a ride.
