Chapter 1 - shit

"You know." A voice behind a desk voiced. "You have submitted a lot of shit to me several times."

The lady standing opposite the desk, was looking down at her shoe bracing herself for impact.

"But this Miss. Dame." The voice sighed. "This is the worst." The voice was that of her boss Mr. Thomas.

The lady, Becca looked up in confusion. Was it the project she slaved her ass off for? The same project she pulled all-nighter's for? Or the one she chose time and time again leaving her with no social life or romantic prospects?

She continued to stare in confusion at the file Mr. Thomas held that he just named 'Shit". She was used to his uncommon way of criticism and grew a resistance along the way. But this one found a way to sting her.

"You think too little; you don't see the big picture at all. What the hell is this?" He shook the file in one hand and flung it to a corner. "You need to step up."

"I will sir."

"When Miss. Dame?" Mr. Thomas asked all riled up.

"I will sir-" Becca paused in realization of something. "Which is why-" She paused again this time breathing in. "Which is why I'm quitting." She said finally.

Mr. Thomas cracked into a big belly laugh that only made Becca angry but she stayed calm to her surprise. "Hahaha."

"Mr. Thomas." She started interrupting his laughter. "I work harder than any staff in this building, and that's including you." This left his mouth hanging at her sudden audacity.

"I've sacrificed a lot for this damn company and all I get is some half-assed criticism from a toddler in an old man's body." Becca finished, collected her file and started walking away but paused mid-way. "And you don't even know anything about what we do here." She sighed and started walking away.

Reaching her desk, she only collected her bag, laptop and her framed picture of she and her parents that they had taken on a vacation and started walking away.

Most of Becca's colleagues saw her walking to the elevator and were puzzled because it was unlike her. She never stood up from her desk only for bathroom breaks and those were on rare occasions and if it were, the bathroom wasn't that way.

Hours later

Becca stood in the middle of her apartment lost in thoughts and looking at nothing in particular. She had been standing there for almost ten minutes and still couldn't decide what to do with herself now.

"Ughhh…" She groaned in frustration. "Maybe I should have stayed a little longer." She said in regret.

She walked over to where she kept her things when she got back. Her bag, laptop and the framed picture. She picked the picture and smiled.

She missed her parents a lot, work never let her visit them often anymore or even call most times. Her mom did most of the calling and whenever she did, she appreciated it.

Then she had an idea.

"A vacation!"
