Chapter 1: The Abandoned Dragon

The warm breeze of the Kalos countryside ruffled Kairo's dark blue hoodie as he walked behind his parents. It was supposed to be a simple family vacation—a visit to the scenic mountain valleys of southern Kalos before returning home. But Kairo wasn't interested in sightseeing. He wanted his first Pokémon.

Most kids in Kalos received their starters from Professor Sycamore in Lumiose City, but Kairo had no intention of taking a traditional starter. He wanted something stronger, something with the potential to be the best.

"Look at that view, Kairo!" his mother called, pointing toward the horizon where snow-capped mountains stood in the distance. "Isn't it amazing?"

Kairo sighed. "Yeah… amazing." He wasn't trying to be rude, but his mind was elsewhere.

As they walked deeper into the valley, a sudden growl echoed through the area. Birds scattered from the trees, and Kairo felt his heart race. His father, a former Pokémon trainer, stopped in his tracks.

"That wasn't a normal wild Pokémon call," he muttered.

Before anyone could react, a blur of blue and gray crashed through the bushes, skidding to a stop on the rocky path ahead. Kairo's eyes widened.

It was a Bagon.

But something was wrong. Its scales were scratched and chipped, and its breathing was uneven. Most alarming of all—its eyes held an untamed fury, like it had been abandoned and forced to fend for itself.

Kairo's mother gasped. "It looks hurt!"

Bagon growled lowly, baring its fangs. It wasn't just hurt—it was angry.

Kairo's father carefully observed the situation. "Stay back. A Pokémon like this might be dangerous."

But Kairo didn't step back. Instead, he took a slow step forward.

"Hey… it's okay," he said softly.

The Bagon's eyes snapped to him, its small body tense. It was preparing to fight.

Kairo slowly knelt, extending a hand. "You're alone, aren't you?"

For a brief second, Bagon's glare faltered.

Kairo knew what he had to do. "If you come with me… I promise, you'll never be alone again."

Bagon hesitated.

Then, with a defiant snarl, it charged at Kairo—not out of hatred, but as a test. Kairo had no Pokémon, no way to defend himself. His parents shouted in alarm, but Kairo didn't flinch.

At the last second, Bagon stopped inches away, staring him down. It was looking for hesitation, for fear.

But Kairo didn't back down.

The dragon snorted, as if impressed, before giving him a single nod.

Kairo grinned. "Alright then, let's do this."

His father let out a sigh. "You really are reckless… but you passed its test. That Bagon respects you now."

Kairo pulled out an empty Poké Ball, tapping it against Bagon's forehead.

The Poké Ball shook once.

Twice.

Click.

Kairo had caught his first Pokémon.

But what he didn't know was that this encounter would change his entire future.

Later That Night

Back at their hotel, Kairo sat on his bed, holding Bagon's Poké Ball.

His parents had warned him—a Dragon-type like Bagon wouldn't be easy to train. It would be stubborn, disobedient, and a long road to evolution. But none of that mattered.

"This is just the start," Kairo muttered. "We're gonna train, get stronger… and one day, we'll take on the Kalos League."

He clenched his fist.

"And then… we'll challenge Ash Ketchum."

Outside, the moonlight cast a glow over the Kalos region. A new journey had begun.
