Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

 First Encounter

Ayo, stood before the mansion, taking a deep breath. The scent of freshly cut grass and blooming flowers filled his lungs. The air was thick with an aura of wealth and luxury. The house alone was intimidating, but he wouldn't let that daunt him. He must prove his worth.

One of his professors, Prof. Stanley, had recommended him to his friend, who needed a tutor for his child. Ayo was chosen as the best student in his department. He recalled the phone call from Prof. Stanley the night before; the professor's voice was warm and reassuring.

"Ayo, I've got a tutoring opportunity for you. The pay is excellent, and it'll help with your mother's medical bills."

Ayo had gladly accepted, the prospect of financial stability a welcome relief. His professor then sent him the address for a physical interview. The address alone hinted that he would be tutoring a rich man's child.

As he stood there, the sound of clicking heels echoed from the doorway. The housekeeper, Lola, walked down to him, her smile warm and inviting.

"Are you Mr. Ayo?" she asked, her voice like honey, raising her head to look at Ayo, who stood at 6 ft 7. His height always drew attention, which he never really understood, given how much he disliked being in the center of attention.

Ayo blinked to focus. "Yes, ma'am."

"Follow me, please."

As they entered the mansion, the cool air-conditioned air enveloped him. The interior was just as impressive as the exterior. In his 23 years, he had never seen a house like this.

"Have a seat; the chairman will be here soon," Lola said gently.

"Thank you, ma'am."

Ayo sat down, taking in the luxurious room. Moments later, a man in his late fifties, wearing a well-fitted suit, descended the stairs. The sound of his footsteps echoed through the hallway, commanding attention.

Ayo's eyes locked onto the chairman, a well-known businessman in the country.

Just then, Shade, the chairman's secretary, approached Ayo.

"Good morning, ma'am," his voice firm, as the lady maintained eye contact with him.

He felt nervous but maintained his composure. He really needed the job.

"Your professor told you what you're needed for, I believe," Shade said, reviewing the background check result on Ayo on her tablet. She nodded after checking it.

He fit the description of the kind of tutor needed: a young, responsible student.

"You're required to be punctual at all times, no excuses. That's one of the reasons you'll be receiving a fat check."

Ayo nodded, unsure of the exact amount, but willing to accept whatever was offered.

Shade handed him a file to read. "Take your time and go through it. If you're okay with it, sign under it."

Ayo read through the dos and don'ts, feeling uneasy, but the promised payment changed his mind. He calculated all the things he could do with the money and signed immediately.

Shade collected the file and signaled to Lola, who handed Ayo a laptop.

He, wasn't expecting a laptop at all. He had tried on several occasions to save up money to buy one, but the money would always encounter unseen problems.

He collected the laptop with gratitude. The sleek, silver device felt cool to his touch. Ayo's mouth dropped, and he closed it quickly, realizing Shade was watching.

What! This is the newest MacBook laptop

"You'll need it for tutoring, and if there's anything else you need, don't hesitate to ask," She said warmly. She could tell that, he was caught off guard.

"Thank you ma'am"

Shade handed him a timetable and courses. "She finds these difficult."

Who is she? . Ayo wondered. He had assumed he'd tutor a high school boy, but the courses indicated otherwise.

"You can handle it, right?" Shade asked.

"Yes, ma'am."

Ayo scanned the familiar course codes. The courses matched the ones he was currently offering at the university . I'll be tutoring a college student... a girl?

His mind was racing, he wondered what kind of girl needed tutoring in college-level courses.

Just then, a soft, melodious voice echoed from the staircase.

"Is my car ready?" Maya asked, descending the stairs confidently in her sexy red dress.

Lola rushed to her. "Yes, the driver just test-drove it."

Shade looked at Ayo, "she's the one you will be tutoring"

"Excuse me?" Ayo turned his head to look at Maya, who was clearly a spoiled daughter.

What did I just signed up for? Ayo thought, meeting Maya's gaze.

...to be continued.❤️
