Chapter 1 - Unwanted Connection

Tobi stormed into the grand lobby of Reign Holdings, still fuming from his encounter outside. The air-conditioning sent a chill down his spine, a stark contrast to the Lagos heat outside. The marble floors gleamed under bright lights, and a massive chandelier loomed above like a silent declaration of wealth.

He clenched his fists, taking a deep breath to steady himself. He couldn't let some arrogant rich guy ruin his focus. This interview was too important. He had worked hard for this opportunity, and nothing—not even Alex Adeyemi—would stand in his way.

At the front desk, a woman with sleek hair and sharp red lipstick barely glanced at him before pointing toward a waiting area.

"The candidates will be called in shortly," she said in a clipped tone.

Tobi muttered a quiet "thank you" and took a seat. Around him, other applicants sat stiffly in their chairs, some flipping through their resumes, others typing nervously on their phones. He exhaled and ran a hand over his neatly trimmed hair.

His mind, however, refused to settle. The encounter with Alex replayed like an annoying song stuck on repeat. He could still hear that smug tone, see that amused smirk. The arrogance of it all made his blood boil. Was that how rich people walked around? Acting like the world belonged to them?

"Tobi Williams?"

A woman in a fitted gray skirt suit stood at the entrance, holding a clipboard.

"Yes, ma," he said quickly, standing up.

"Follow me."

Tobi walked behind her, keeping his steps measured. This was it. His future depended on what happened next.

They entered a sleek conference room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Lagos skyline. Three panelists sat behind a polished table. One was the HR director, a middle-aged man with thin-rimmed glasses. Beside him sat a stern-faced woman flipping through a file.

And at the head of the table—his stomach clenched—was Alex Adeyemi.

Tobi froze for half a second. The universe was playing a cruel joke on him.

Alex was leaning back in his chair, fingers lightly tapping on the table. His sharp gaze locked onto Tobi, and his lips curved into an infuriating smirk.

"Well, well," Alex said smoothly, closing a file. "Looks like we meet again."

Tobi's pulse quickened. This can't be happening.

"Please, have a seat," the HR director said, oblivious to the tension crackling in the air.

Tobi sat stiffly, his mind racing. Was this guy part of the hiring team? Would he ruin his chances just for fun?

Alex's gaze lingered on him for a moment longer before he leaned forward, hands clasped.

"Shall we begin?"

Tobi swallowed hard, forcing himself to focus. No matter what, he wouldn't let Alex Adeyemi intimidate him.

This job was his. He was going to prove it.
