Synopsis
For centuries, witches and vampires have been sworn enemies-a truth written in blood and history. Witches exist to eradicate vampires, and vampires exist to devour witches. Selene Vatore, a cold, breathtakingly beautiful vampire, has spent her immortal life alone. She has no heart, no mercy, and no weaknesses. That is, until she meets Eloise. Eloise D'Angelis, a brilliant and powerful witch, was raised to hate vampires. She was supposed to lead her coven into war. But when she finds herself at death's door, the last thing she expects is a vampire saving her. Selene and Eloise were never meant to cross paths. They were never meant to fall in love. And they were never meant to be together. Because their love is killing them. Eloise grows weaker by the day, her magic unraveling. Selene feels something foreign stirring in her chest-a beating heart, the curse of mortality. Their love makes them feel alive for the first time... but it is also their slow, inescapable death. With a war looming, a council hunting them, and time slipping through their fingers, they must make an impossible choice: Let go of each other to survive... or hold on and perish together.

Chapter 1 - prologue

Prologue

Darkness has always been my home.

For centuries, I have walked this earth, untouched by time. I have seen empires crumble, heard the dying whispers of kings and queens. The world has changed, yet I have remained—cold, immortal, and alone.

That is what it means to be a vampire.

Witches are nothing but enemies. Their magic burns, their curses linger, and their hatred is woven into the marrow of my bones.

So why did I save her?

The witch. The girl with emerald eyes that glowed like the embers of a dying fire. The girl whose blood smelled like the forbidden, like something I was never meant to touch.

I should have let her die that night.

Instead, I made a choice that will be my undoing.

Because now I feel something I should not feel and it's killing us both.
