Synopsis
The sun shone brightly, its rays marked the start of summer, with children playing at the park, families having picnics and celebrating the incoming holiday they had booked. For this, maybe it was the perfect day to die. Or perhaps the worst. Kat was an ordinary girl: pretty, smart and effortlessly kind. That is what led to her death. Assisting an injured beggar to cross the road, only for him to push her into the incoming car while he was frantically trying to avoid it. What Kat didn't expect was waking up in a familiar room, a life she remembered so vividly as her own yet now she was a princess. A princess with a goal. And enough talent to pursue it. (Was previously called the Princess of Aurora).

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Rememberance

It was abrupt. One moment she was Katrina, the spoiled yet adored Princess of Aurora -a small kingdom situated on the coast, known for its trade with exotic fish and coral. The next she was both the Princess and Kat, her old life where she struggled to maintain relationships with her family and friends. Her old life was a distant memory, nostalgic but unreachable.

Even if she wanted to dwell on the past, today was not the day for it. As the only surviving heir of the Aurora line, her kingdom rested on today. Her awakening. A representative of the illustrious academy of Welrue would make its way to her kingdom and test her capability of magic.

If Katrina had a chance to become a sorceress, it would elevate her kingdom especially when she takes the throne on her twenty-first birthday. Up and coming in just three short years. Staring into her mirror at the elegant yet simple green gown, that had been prepared for her, she calmed her nerves.

The royal line of Aurora had no history with magic and so if she failed to have any it would not be unexpected, only disappointing. Especially to the Kat side of her. Placing the crown (which showed her status of princess) on top of her immaculately braided silver hair, the girl waltzed outside her room with all the grace ingrained in her from youth.

Walking through the engraved stone hallways, etched in banners, torches and paintings detailing a history that predates generations, she arrived at the hall where the ceremony would take place. Nodding politely to the knights standing guard, Katrina placed her hands on the dark wooden doors and pushed it open.

In front of her, there was a direct line towards the throne where her father sat, the representative of the academy, an aged man, stood near him. A table where a clear crystal sat. Despite its resemblance to clear quartz, it was Idirine. Famously known for its sensitivity to any magic which it comes into contact with. On the sides were the nobles of her kingdom watching her every move. The silver haired girl approached slowly, before curtsying to her father, who watched approvingly, and nodding politely to the older man.

Her father was a tall man, who used to impose fear with his talent with swords, and his sharp diplomatic mind, commenced the ceremony which consisted of a short speech and the chant of their kingdom.

"Touch the crystal child." The representative instructed her. Slowly she reached out towards it, till her hand grasped its smooth exterior. For a few seconds, it showed no change with a wave of disappointment washing over her. However, afterwards it lit up like a beacon of light.

Three distinct colours made themselves known, intertwining with each other. A light green for the affinity for flora, a deep blue for an affinity for water, and most unexpectedly a deep purple symbolising an affinity for poison. Having three affinities was rare, but not unheard of. Katrina had never been so excited at the sight before her though.

Affinities for magic were definite, it was impossible to cast magic outside of your affinity, although in some cases it can evolve. Such as earth evolving into metal or water into ice.

There were countless affinities placed into three categories based upon rarity. The first was basic which consisted of the four main elements (earth, fire, water and wind). The second category was muse, this consisted of elements that derived from the first four, for example flora, ice, metal and lightning as well as many more. The last category, and the rarest, is known as the unique category. These were elements which do not derive from the main four. Consisting of elements such as light, darkness, poison and space.

The whole crowd cheered in delight, and a smile blossomed onto the girl's face. This was a one way ticket to the academy.

"Congratulations on your exceptional affinities Princess, I can tell you will be something great." The old man said to her. After the cheers died down, her father got up from his throne and made his way to her. Placing his rough calloused hand onto her face -from years of training with the blade no doubt- he looked into her eyes before whispering.

"I always knew you were special" His voice soaked in love, making her eyes slightly water. Her grey haired father took his hand from her face and walked past her addressing the crowd of nobles and knights.

"Today is a monumentous occasion for our kingdom. A day to be remembered and celebrated for all. Go and spread the word, my brothers and sisters because tonight we celebrate." Cheers erupted from his speech as the many nobles began making their way outside the hall, led by the knights. Katrina followed her father and the representative to a much smaller room used for negotiations.

Sitting down on the padded dark wooded chairs across a small table from the representative, she turned to her father who had taken the seat next to her, as he began to speak.
