Chapter 8 - Plans

Making my way out of the cafeteria, I headed straight to the student training facility. As I entered, I noticed only a handful of people inside. The top 10 students had their own custom training rooms, far superior to this one. Meanwhile, those of us ranked in the top 100 were given better facilities than the students ranked below us. I guess being highly ranked does have its perks.

Still, I couldn't afford to get comfortable. This body was new to me, and if I couldn't keep up with the other students, my rank would drop fast. I wasn't about to let that happen. I had to make sure I became fully familiar with this body and its capabilities.

I started with some cardio exercises to loosen up and get a feel for my stamina. Once I had warmed up, I moved on to sword training. Reviewing the Derek Swordsmanship technique, I realized it was a Level 3 sword style—slightly above average. In this world, sword styles were ranked from Level 1 to Level 6, with Levels 5 and 6 being extremely rare and typically reserved for the elite ranks of the Empire. For a baron like Derek to possess a Level 3 sword style was reasonable, but still, it wasn't anything groundbreaking.

Unfortunately, sword styles couldn't be upgraded beyond their assigned level… at least not until the main character discovered a certain scroll that could break this limitation. That scroll allowed a sword style to surpass its level cap. However, the protagonist never actually used it because his system handed him a Level 6 sword style anyway. What a cheat that system was.

I guess taking the scroll for myself wouldn't make any drastic changes to the story. After all, the main character didn't even use it. The scroll wasn't supposed to be found until the class outing to the forest later in the story, but I had no intention of waiting that long. The outing was only meant to give the students dungeon experience, but the protagonist just happened to stumble upon the cave and the scroll. If I got there first, I could make it mine before anyone else even knew it existed.

The scroll would be in the cave, untouched. I just had to find it before the story progressed that far.

For now, I needed to focus on training.

The next four hours were brutal. I worked tirelessly to engrave the Derek Swordsmanship technique into my body. At first, it felt awkward and unnatural, but as time passed, something clicked. My body started to assimilate the sword style, almost like muscle memory from the previous owner was waking up inside me. By the end, I could nearly replicate the technique perfectly.

Drenched in sweat and completely exhausted, I decided to call it a day. I headed back to my dorm room, craving nothing more than a hot shower and some rest.

After showering, I changed into some clean, comfortable clothes. Feeling refreshed, I sat down to plan my next move.

The scroll. In the novel, the protagonist found it during the class outing in the forest, but that event wouldn't happen for a while. I needed to act before then. If I waited until the official outing, the cave might have already been tampered with, or worse, the protagonist could still end up finding it. That wasn't a risk I was willing to take.

According to the story, the outing took place near a relatively unexplored forest outside the academy. It was supposed to be a dungeon training exercise, but the protagonist had gotten separated from the group and stumbled upon an unmarked cave. He claimed he heard something calling out to him, drawing him toward it. That's how he found the scroll.

But I didn't need the story to play out like that. I could go there myself beforehand, find the scroll, and claim it. The academy allowed students to leave the grounds on weekends, which meant I could head to the forest in three days. That gave me just enough time to prepare.

The next few days passed uneventfully. I attended classes, completed assignments, and continued practicing in the training facility. The former owner of this body had been fairly book smart, which made keeping up with the lessons easier than I expected.

Finally, the weekend arrived. It was time to get the scroll before anyone else even knew it existed.

Here's the updated version with the requested changes to the first paragraph and adjustments to keep the flow consistent:
