Chapter 8 - Distortion

The moment he heard the shrill scream, Arlen opened his eyes. With one hand, he flipped over the edge of the crow's nest and landed on the ground like a cat. He quickly rushed in the direction from which the scream had come. Arlen burst into the cabin. The earlier scream had already drawn many people, including the sleepy - eyed Old Snore and the solemn - faced Colin!

"Colin, what's going on?"

Shaking his head, Colin said, "I just got here too. I don't know what happened."

"Let's go and check it out together."

"Let's go!"

As the de - facto rulers of the Gray Shark, and as the first and second mates of the Black Shark, or rather, of the Black Shark Fleet, whenever there was an internal problem, the two of them had to step in to resolve it. They couldn't push the matter onto others. This was also the rule on a pirate ship. Since you had become an officer and enjoyed the power of an officer, you naturally had to assume the obligations of an officer.

The two of them, one in front of the other, made their way to the interior of the Gray Shark's cabin. They kicked open the door. When Arlen saw the situation inside the room, his face immediately turned extremely grim. At the same time, Colin, who was standing behind Arlen, holding two guns, also saw the scene in the room. Perhaps because the alcohol he had consumed hadn't worn off yet, or perhaps because the scene in the room was too shocking, he couldn't hold it in and turned around to vomit.

Colin vomited most of the contents of his stomach before finally recovering. His face was sallow as he looked at the scene in the room. Even though he had witnessed countless killings and darkness on the East Sea, seeing this scene now, he still couldn't help but feel a severe physical and psychological discomfort.

There had originally been three people in this room. Now, in a sense, there was only one left.

The three pirates were mashed together as if they were made of clay. Their bodies were twisted and stretched in a strange way, merging with the other two.

The heads of two of the three people had mostly merged. In the eye socket of the merged part, there was a blood - shot eye with two deep - purple pupils looking towards Arlen and Colin, filled with pain and madness. The head of the third person was fused to an arm, the owner of which was unknown. It was waving around while making meaningless babbling and wailing sounds.

As for their torsos and limbs, they had long been distorted beyond recognition. Arlen looked carefully and found that the bodies of these three people had actually merged with the bed and the floor beneath them. They were like a strange - looking flesh - and - blood plant growing on the floor and the bed. This extremely strange distortion made people want to stay away as soon as they saw it.

Arlen's pupils contracted slightly. He activated his power and looked at the three people who had merged together like a flesh - and - blood plant!

[Fusion Distortion Creature: A living being that has undergone distortion under the influence of an unknown entity. Do not touch. Do not approach. Any active flesh - and - blood tissue derived from it is highly contagious.]

Taking a sharp breath, Arlen immediately said to Colin, "Colin, go find the captain. We can't handle this here!"

Reaching out to wipe the vomit from the corner of his mouth, Colin responded and was about to go find Damon of the Black Shark to deal with the situation here.

However, as soon as he turned around, he saw Damon of the Black Shark walking in from the outside.

Colin immediately saluted Damon of the Black Shark and said, "Captain, something has happened. We need your decision."

Looking at Colin's state, Damon of the Black Shark frowned slightly. He knew his subordinates very well, especially Colin, who was extremely loyal to him. For Colin to look like this, it was obvious that this matter was no ordinary one.

Damon of the Black Shark quickly walked to the depths of the cabin and patted Arlen on the shoulder.

When Damon of the Black Shark saw the scene inside the room, the calm expression that had never left his face disappeared for the first time. Even Arlen, who was standing beside Damon of the Black Shark, actually saw a hint of faint fear on his face!

Although that hint of fear was quickly masked, Arlen was certain that he hadn't misseen!

What on earth was this thing that could even frighten his own captain?

Apparently, Damon of the Black Shark had no intention of explaining to Arlen and the others. He didn't want to have anything to do with this thing at all, not even think about it!

He raised his hand and released a large amount of black smoke, which filled the entire room. In the swirling black smoke, everything in the room seemed to be burned by fire. It quickly turned yellow, then black, and dissipated into ashes. The three people who had been mashed together struggled and howled continuously in the black smoke. Eventually, their voices grew weaker and weaker until they, along with the other things in the room, turned into ashes.

When the black smoke cleared, Damon of the Black Shark looked at the charred room and directly said to Arlen and Colin, "Seal this place. No one is allowed to approach! Investigate what these three people came into contact with during the day. Report any findings to me immediately. Do not explore on your own!"

"Understood!"

"Yes, Captain!"

Arlen and Colin immediately agreed. Watching Damon of the Black Shark turn and leave, Colin summoned the crew to seal the room, while Arlen walked directly towards the crowd. He began to investigate what the three had done, what they had said, and if there were any abnormalities during the day, in an attempt to find the cause of their distortion.

The sudden incident had left everyone in no mood to sleep.

Or it could also be said that this incident had made everyone afraid to sleep. They were afraid that when they fell asleep and woke up again, they would also become those strange, distorted creatures and eventually perish in Damon of the Black Shark's black smoke.

The two ships set sail in silence. Their destination was the nearest Free Island, an island that had been expanded by mining the rocks on the mountain and using wood and steel. It had an extra - large port.

This method of expanding outward, upward, and downward with the island as the center using various materials was very common in this world where land resources were extremely scarce and precious.

Colin led the crew members who were on good terms with him to handle the task assigned by Damon of the Black Shark.

On Arlen's side, he also began to investigate the source of the distortion of the three people.

In terms of the task, Arlen's task was much more dangerous. The best way to avoid the harm of those mysterious events was not to explore, not to pursue, and to stay away as much as possible.

However, such was the character of Captain Damon of the Black Shark. He seemed generous, but in fact, he was very petty. In his heart, he ranked everyone in different grades. When faced with truly dangerous tasks, he usually sent those who were not highly regarded in his heart to complete them. As for those he trusted, he often protected them.

This didn't mean that Arlen was not highly regarded in his heart. In fact, compared to most people, Damon of the Black Shark still valued Arlen. However, compared to Colin, whom he trusted more, Arlen was the one who could be sent out to take the risk.
