Chereads / India : My Premier League / Chapter 9 - Business Wizard

Chapter 9 - Business Wizard

"This is the political center of British football!"

When Yuvi stood in front of the 6-story office building in SOHO Square in central London, he was filled with sighs.

He had heard too many stories about this office building.

The most talked-about one among the fans should be the love triangle between the FA CEO Palios, the England national team coach Eriksson, and the FA secretary Faria Alam, which will happen in the first half of 2004.

This zipper door that shocked the world got rid of Palios and almost made Eriksson lose his job.

At the same time, it also ruined the reputation of the FA.

In his previous life, Yuvi had heard the employees of the FA talk about a term.

  Flirters Anonymous.

The abbreviation of the FA also happens to be FA.

Because of this, he remembered another name, Adam Crozier.

Privately, Yuvi heard many people mention this young Scotsman, and different people had different opinions about him.

But almost everyone thought that he was a genius in the business world!

In 1990, the 26-year-old Crozier officially became the managing director of the British advertising giant Saatchi & Saatchi Group, and became one of the two co-CEOs at the age of 30.

At the age of 36, Adam Crozier chose to leave Saatchi and join the English Football Association as CEO.

He is the youngest CEO in the history of the English Football Association!

As soon as he took office, Adam Crozier did something that shocked the whole of Britain.

He announced that the English Football Association headquarters would be moved from remote Lancaster to the center of London, where every inch of land is valuable.

In the past, the English Football Association has always given people the impression of a decadent image controlled by a group of bald old men.

In order to change this stereotype, in addition to moving the headquarters, Adam Crozier spent two years to reduce the average age of the English Football Association's employees from 51 to 32 years old.

Among the 250 employees, the proportion of female employees has increased from less than 10% to the current 60%.

In addition, Adam Crozier began a very radical reform of the English Football Association.

Including hiring famous coach Eriksson with a large sum of money; reforming the FA executive committee and reducing the number of people to 12; establishing a training and qualification system for English coaches; introducing the club financial evaluation mechanism promoted by the German Football Association...

In just two years, Adam Crozier completely overturned the old FA.

Under Crozier's management, the FA's revenue soared from the original 20 million pounds to 120 million pounds, just like riding a rocket.

But soon, he hit a wall.

With the support of FA Chairman Geoff Thompson, Adam Crozier ambitiously wanted to bring the organization and financial management of the Premier League back to the FA.

The FA planned to sign a contract worth 5 million pounds with the sponsor for the image rights of the England internationals.

Once successful, the money will be divided up by the internationals, and the FA will only charge necessary operating expenses. Of course,

the Premier League and the club bosses will not do it.

If the FA sets this precedent, will the player's image rights still be the club's private property in the future?

So, as a retaliation, led by former Chelsea chairman Bates, with the tacit approval of Manchester United, Arsenal and other top teams, the Premier League proposed to set up a professional competition management committee in the FA to deprive the FA of its management rights over the Premier League and cup competitions.

The two sides were in a mess.

Finally, at the end of 2002, Chairman Geoff Thompson defected and Adam Crozier, who was stabbed in the back, stepped down.

In July 2003, Palios succeeded Crozier as CEO of the FA.

Since then, Crozier's two-year, magnificent reform of English football has ended in failure.

But whether it is the relocation of the FA headquarters, the reform of internal office management, or the increase in revenue, or even the coach training system, it has brought earth-shaking changes to English football.

Yuvi had never seen Adam Crozier in his previous life.

Because after leaving the FA, he never returned to the football world.

But he had long admired this "hero" who was criticized in public but praised by countless people in private.

Many people even joked that if Crozier had not reformed and vigorously introduced female employees, there would not have been the subsequent love triangle, let alone the nickname "Anonymous Flirt".

After leaving the English Football Association, Adam Crozier went directly to the Royal Mail and turned this old company from loss to profit.

In Yuvi's previous life, he served as CEO of companies such as Independent Television and BT Television, and achieved amazing results, which confirmed the outside world's evaluation of him.

  Business wizard!

  ...

When Yuvi walked into the office building of the English Football Association, Dinamo Zagreb CEO Damir Vbanovic was already waiting.

With him, in addition to the young player Luka Modric who flew from Croatia, there was another world-class legendary superstar.

  Boban.

When Yuvi came in, he saw Modric standing beside his idol with a solemn face. On the contrary, the Croatian midfielder was chatting and laughing with the English Football Association Chairman Geoff Thompson, CEO Palios, and England National Team Head Coach Eriksson.

This is the influence of the legendary star!

"Sorry, something delayed me." Yuvi apologized with a smile as soon as he entered the door.

Whether it was Boban, Thompson or Palios, they were all a little surprised at Yuvi's youth.   Under Vbanovich's introduction, they all maintained their demeanor and did not despise him.

But soon, Eriksson's words surprised everyone present again.

"I came here specially this time, in addition to my old friend Zvonimir, I also want to see who dares to come to our national team to poach our players."

The Swede said this with a smiling, relaxed, and even a little funny tone.

"What's going on?" Geoff Thompson asked hurriedly.

The England national team is what he cares about most.

"Brian Kidd told me that a team in the third-tier league recently contacted him and offered him an annual salary of 300,000 pounds, trying to persuade him to coach." Eriksson looked at Yuvi and laughed.

"300,000 pounds?" Palios was very surprised.

His annual salary was only 450,000 pounds.

Yuvi, a third-tier club, offered Brian Kidd an annual salary of 300,000 pounds?

This is much higher than the salary in the national team.

Modric was just a young man, listening to the side, shocked, happy and worried.

Happy because he had heard of Brian Kidd's name, England's most famous assistant coach, Ferguson's assistant for many years, and the founder of Manchester United's Class of 92.

If he hadn't fallen out with Ferguson that year, he should have had the halo of Manchester United's triple crown hero.

This is enough to prove that Yuvi's promise to him before is turning into reality.

Worry is to sweat for Yuvi.

After all, poaching players from the national team is no joke if it angers the chairman and CEO of the English Football Association.

Not to mention Modric, even Boban and Vbanovich couldn't help but look at Yuvi.

Although Eriksson was joking, did he really have no grudges in his heart?

Yuvi was not surprised or nervous, but he glanced at everyone leisurely, and was particularly satisfied with the concern projected by Modric.

This proved that Modric began to identify with the Bayswater in his heart.

  "Ha, Sven, you are exaggerating."

Yuvi did not face the pressure of the world's top coaches at all, and seemed particularly calm.

"Brian is one of the best coaches in Europe. Back then, he went to Real Madrid, AC Milan, Juventus and other European countries and giants to learn and learn under the cultivation of the English Football Association and Manchester United. Whether it is training players or understanding British football, he is the best."

Brian Kidd is a direct descendant of Manchester United, from players to coaches.

But now, Yuvi mentioned the English Football Association, which also benefited Thompson and Palios a lot.

"To be honest, I would never have dared to think about it, but now that he has resigned from Elland Road, I would like to invite him to our Bayswater to give us some advice on our work and serve as a consultant to help us improve our training and technical and tactical levels."

In December 1998, on the eve of Manchester United's treble, which was also the most difficult time for the team, Brian Kidd left Ferguson.

In addition to the fact that Blackburn, another Premier League team, invited him to coach alone, his conflict with Ferguson was also intensifying.

But after coaching Blackburn for a year, in November 1999, Brian Kidd announced his dismissal.

This also made him clearly realize that he was not suitable to be a head coach at all.

So, in January 2000, he accepted the invitation of Leeds United head coach O'Leary to serve as an assistant coach.

With the cooperation of O'Leary and Brian Kidd, Leeds United reached the peak of the club's history and reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

But at the end of last year, O'Leary was dismissed from Leeds United, which was in deep financial crisis.

In January this year, after Eriksson's assistant McLaren went solo and coached Middlesbrough, Brian Kidd came to the England national team under the strong recommendation of Beckham and other Class 92.

Throughout the first half of the year, he worked for both the national team and Leeds United.

This is also very common in European football.

After all, in the absence of major competitions, the national team has very few game tasks.

Therefore, the salary of coaches is very low, and many are part-time.

Of course, a certain country is an exception.

"Sven, in fact, you don't have to worry. Even if Brian comes to work in our team, it must still be based on the national team. We will definitely do our best to cooperate with your work."

Yuvi's statement made Eriksson unable to find any fault.

Afterwards, Yuvi praised Geoff Thompson and Palios a few times, which made these two bigwigs of the English Football Association quite pleased.

This made Yuvi believe that even if Brian Kidd really accepted the invitation of the Bayswater Chinese, there would be no conflict.

  As for Eriksson...

Well, does anyone really believe that this guy is not coaching England for a sky-high annual salary?

As the conversation deepened, Boban and others had a new understanding of Yuvi.

Although he was young, Yuvi could handle the discussion well, whether it was about the profession on the football field or the gossip outside the football field. He was always witty and quoted from a wide range of sources, which made people feel like spring breeze.

Vbanovic, who felt Yuvi's ability for the second time, had the deepest understanding of this.

Whether it was Thompson and Palios, or Boban and Vbanovic, they all found that Yuvi didn't seem to care about the upcoming hearing at all.

This was the first time that the British Home Office held a hearing for a football player.

In other words, if he passed the hearing and got a work permit, Luka Modric would become the first professional player in history to land in the Premier League through the [Special Talent Clause].

Whenever he thought of this, not to mention Boban and Vbanovic, even the English Football Association was quite cautious.

On the contrary, Yuvi always looked confident.

This also made the people around him look up to him a little more.
