Chapter 1 - A New Start

I lay on the ground, pain throbbing at the back of my head in the middle of the street. People hurried past me, oblivious to my plight. Suddenly, someone approached to help me, but just as they reached my side, I felt myself slip away. I had never experienced anything like this—everything around me dissolved into a dark void. I tried to open my eyes; they were open, but the darkness made it seem as if they weren't. I called out, "What is this feeling?" As soon as I spoke, I heard a girl's voice nearby, tinged with concern.

Brother, please wake up," she pleaded, her voice filled with concern. As my eyes opened, the light flooded in, revealing the girl's anxious expression. With worry etched on her face, she reassured me that she knew I would be alright. As she spoke those words, a flood of memories surged through my mind. I found myself transported into the body of someone named Cris.

Today, while Cris was playing, Cris accidentally slipped because of the corner of her clothes. Cris told her it was fine and that she shouldn't worry about it. After that, Cris's memory faded, and Cris began to bleed.

Cris passed away, as Cris's Memories rushed into my mind at an overwhelming pace. I called out to my sister, Alice. "Sister, please stop crying. I'm okay now," I said with a smile. She didn't stop crying, but in a whimpering voice, she apologized.

Cris and his sister shared a strong bond, though their relationship with their parents was more distant. They didn't harbor any negative feelings towards their mom or dad; in fact, they cared for them. Their father was a successful businessman, while their mother was also managing her own business.

As Cris absorbed all the memories of his former self, he learned about the city they were in, known as Kasi City. The city was bisected by a river, which divided it into two parts: the Upper Kasi and the Lower Kasi.

Conveniently, the river was named the Kasi River because it originates from a nearby lake.

This world, like other fantasy realms, lacked magic; however, what it missed in enchantment was compensated by its advanced technology. It was distinctly different from Earth in that it never progressed beyond the steam era—everything here operated on steam. One might describe it as a steampunk fantasy.

As I pondered this, my sister Alice was quietly observing me. While I stared up at the ceiling, I struggled to comprehend how I had ended up in this situation and what was happening around me. Eventually, I decided to accept the reality of it all.

I stood up and chose to embrace my sister, just as a servant entered the room.

He suddenly pulled out a knife and charged at us. Realizing his intentions, I quickly grabbed a nearby chair and threw it to block him, protecting my sister from the servant who kept advancing toward me.

I believed I could foolishly stop him, but it was in vain, and I ended up getting stabbed in the stomach.
