Chapter 3 - You really are a sheep

"Son, where's the fish I asked you to buy?"

In the vision, Mu Chenyi saw "Mother" staring at him, her voice carrying a haunting, hollow tone.

Then—

A sudden wave of pure fear surged through him.

He wasn't just watching this moment—he was experiencing it.

This was his future self.

Every emotion, every ounce of terror he felt right now was the exact fear his future self would experience at this moment of his death.

"M-Mother, I forgot…"

His future self tried his best to stay calm.

"Forgot?"

For the first time, the artificial smile on "Mother's" face twitched, momentarily freezing—

Then—

Her expression contorted into something grotesque.

"Son… so you're a sheep after all."

That mechanical, emotionless voice rang out again.

The same line!

The very same words that preceded his first death!

Mu Chenyi, who was watching this unfold, felt every hair on his body stand on end.

And then—

"Mother" moved.

Her hands—iron-green, twisted—lunged for his future self's throat!

Her eyes popped out of their sockets, still dangling by bloody tendrils, swaying violently.

CRACK!

A surge of agony—a sensation of pure suffocation

His future self died.

Back to Reality

Mu Chenyi gasped, his chest heaving violently.

He was back in his bedroom.

The overwhelming, visceral sensation of dying was gone—

But the fear remained.

"So… this is the power of [Eye of Death]?"

His mind reeled.

The vision he had just witnessed was his inevitable future… unless he changed it.

This SSS-tier ability wasn't just some simple foresight—it was absolute immersion into his own death scene, as if he had truly experienced it firsthand.

He forced himself to calm down, carefully analyzing what he had seen.

Breaking Down His Future Death

Time of Death: 11:30 AM

"Mother" arrives home at exactly 11:30. She sees that he didn't buy the fish and kills him on the spot.

Cause of Death: Failing to buy the fish.

The trigger wasn't her arriving home—it was the fact that he hadn't completed her request. That meant… if he bought the fish, he might survive.

Why Didn't His Future Self Buy the Fish?

He hesitated to leave the house. Knowing that this world was dangerous, he instinctively chose to stay in the safest place—home. That led to his death. Limited Time & The Final Decision

A sudden voice snapped him out of his thoughts—

"Son, I'm heading to work!"

The voice of "Mother" came from outside.

Mu Chenyi flinched, but quickly forced himself to respond with a stiff, emotionless voice:

"Okay, Mother."

He then listened carefully

The sound of footsteps.

The door opening.

Then closing.

She was gone.

But he didn't move immediately.

With what had happened earlier—her lingering shadow outside his door—he couldn't afford to take any chances.

So, he waited.

30 whole minutes.

Finally, when he was absolutely sure the house was empty—

He stepped out of his bedroom.

Time Check

The first thing he did was look at the clock on the TV stand.

"9:32 AM."

He had less than two hours before 'Mother' returned.

And more importantly—

His [Eye of Death] would be off cooldown at 10:02 AM.

Meaning—

If he used it again at 10:02, he could see another glimpse of his future.

But there was a huge problem.

The Dilemma The fish market was over 2 kilometers away. A round trip would be over 5 kilometers. Even if he ran, it would take at least 30+ minutes to get back.

That meant—

He only had one more chance to use [Eye of Death] before making his final decision.

If he used it at 11:02 AM, he wouldn't have enough time to buy the fish.

And if he didn't buy the fish…

He would die.

"Shit… I only have one shot at this."

Mu Chenyi clenched his fists.

The next move he made would determine whether he lived… or died.

He had only one chance.

One more use of [Eye of Death], and if he didn't get any useful information this time—

He would have no choice but to go buy the fish.

Mu Chenyi took a deep breath, steadying his nerves.

Then, he sat down on the sofa, eyes glued to the clock on the television stand, watching the seconds slowly tick by.

Every moment felt painfully long…

Finally—

10:02 AM.

Without hesitation, Mu Chenyi activated his ability.

"Use [Eye of Death]!"

The sensation of his soul being pulled away struck him once more.

In the blink of an eye, his consciousness was ripped from his body, yanked into the unknown—

And then—

He opened his eyes inside another body.

The Future Vision Begins

Beep… Beep… Beep…

A ringing tone filled his ears.

Someone was making a phone call.

His vision had switched to "observer mode", allowing him to witness his future self's next death.

"Hello, this is the XX Street Police Department."

A calm, professional female voice answered from the other end of the call.

"Please, arrest my mother! She's a monster—a green-furred creature!"

His future self spoke urgently, his tone filled with desperation.

"Her name is Bai Xiumei. She's 49 years old and currently works at the Huidong Textile Factory!"

Every detail—his mother's full name, age, and workplace—was laid out without hesitation.

"Excuse me?"

The female officer on the line sounded momentarily confused.

"I said, ARREST MY MOTHER! SHE'S A MONSTER!"

His future self shouted, but then—

His voice suddenly shifted.

"Of course… I could also come to the police station myself. But you have to guarantee my safety."

A brief silence followed.

Then—

"Xiao Chen, give me the phone."

Mu Chenyi faintly heard a man's voice from the police station's end.

A few seconds later, a new voice came through the phone—deep and composed.

"Sir, I just heard… you said your mother has turned into a monster?"

"Who are you?" His future self asked warily.

"I'm Zhang Qian, Chief of the XX Street Police Department."

The man's voice was calm and reassuring.

"If it's not too inconvenient, could you come to the station and explain everything in detail?"

"Of course, if you believe your life is currently in danger, we can also dispatch officers to assist you."

Hearing this, the observing Mu Chenyi felt a small wave of relief.

"Looks like the police are actually taking this seriously."

But then—a chilling thought struck him.

[Eye of Death] only shows his next death.

That meant…

This scenario was how he was going to die.

Then, his future self spoke again.

"Okay, send officers to my house. I live in Unit 202, Building 5, Fandou Garden."

"Understood, sir. Officers will arrive within three minutes. Please stay on the line with us."

The call ended.

His future self sat in his room, anxiously waiting.

Minutes later—

The sound of sirens echoed outside.

The police had arrived.

A short moment later—

Knock, knock!

A firm knock sounded at the door.

His future self stood up, walked over, and opened the door—

Standing there were two uniformed officers, both smiling.

But…

There was something wrong with their smiles.

His future self suddenly felt an uneasy chill crawl up his spine.

The officers' smiles…

They looked exactly like Mother's unnatural, stiff grin.

As if they had been copied and pasted from the same template.

"Hello, sir. You called about a monster?"

One of the "officers" asked, his smile unmoving.

His future self instantly felt alarm bells ringing in his head.

"No."

He denied it immediately, shaking his head.

"You have the wrong house. Please leave."

But as soon as he spoke—

The two officers' expressions twisted.

Their smiles deepened into something distorted… horrifying.

A moment later—

Green fur began sprouting across their faces.

And then—

"You really are a sheep."
