Chapter 18: The Road to Aqualis
---
With the Fire Dragon Host now allied with them, the group set their sights on their next destination: Aqualis, the hidden city of the Water Dragon Host. The road ahead was fraught with dangers, from Cursed Seas to treacherous lands inhabited by fierce sea creatures, but Michael knew there was no turning back. The stakes were too high.
As the group departed Firehaven, the fiery glow of the volcano faded into the distance. Michael's mind wandered back to the lessons Varmax had taught him. The Thunder Dragon was not just a force of power but a symbol of balance, of control. Michael had learned to harness his power, not through brute strength alone, but by understanding it—respecting it.
"We're entering dangerous waters," Caden warned as he sailed beside Michael in the small fleet of ships. "The Cursed Seas have claimed many lives, and some say there's something in those waters… something far worse than the storms."
Michael looked ahead, the horizon now swallowed by thick fog, the sea dark and turbulent. Solara stood at the helm, her eyes scanning the waters, feeling the pulse of magic beneath the surface.
"They say the Water Dragon Host is the one to calm these waters," Solara said, her voice tinged with both awe and uncertainty. "Her magic is like no other. If we can find her, the Cursed Seas will be nothing."
"I only hope we find her soon," Michael said grimly. "We need every Dragon Host. The Dragon Lords are out there, and they will come for us. Time is not on our side."
They sailed through the night, the sky swirling with clouds as lightning crackled in the distance. Michael could feel the storm building, but it wasn't just the weather. There was a deeper, more sinister power in the air, a presence that seemed to watch them, follow them.
As they neared the center of the Cursed Seas, the fog thickened, and the sea began to churn violently. Vast waves rose, crashing against the ships with overwhelming force. Seraphina stood beside Michael, her eyes glowing with faint ethereal light.
"It's not the sea," she said quietly, her voice barely audible over the roars of the storm. "It's the magic. We're being tested."
Just then, a massive shape emerged from beneath the waves. Dark and powerful, it was the very embodiment of the sea's rage, a colossal serpent-like creature whose eyes gleamed with an ancient malice. Its massive coils rose from the water, threatening to capsize their ships.
"Everyone brace yourselves!" Caden shouted. "This is no ordinary beast! It's a guardian of the Cursed Seas!"
Without warning, Michael raised his Thunder Dragon Trident, his eyes filled with resolve. The weapon began to crackle with energy, the air thick with the smell of ozone. "Thunder Dragon's Fury!" he roared, sending a burst of lightning at the beast. The electricity coursed through the water, sizzling as it struck the creature's scales.
The beast hissed in pain but didn't retreat. Instead, it lashed out with its massive tail, smashing against the ships, sending them into a frenzy.
"Hold on!" Emberlyn shouted, her hands raised, flames swirling around her. "I've got this!"
With a single wave of her arm, flames erupted from her fingertips, engulfing the serpent's tail and forcing it back. "We need to work together," she said through gritted teeth. "This creature is a manifestation of the sea's power. It won't be defeated by force alone."
Michael nodded, understanding the need for unity. "Caden, help Solara steer the ship. Seraphina, be ready to reinforce us with your magic."
Solara, her eyes glowing with a fierce light, stepped forward, calling upon the winds. A storm of air and water surrounded her, adding to the chaos of the battle. She created a massive vortex, swirling around the creature, pulling it deeper into the sea.
At the same time, Seraphina's ethereal magic began to manifest in a dazzling display of light. Her spiritual energy flowed over the sea, forming barriers that protected the ships from the creature's attacks.
Together, the group fought in perfect harmony. Emberlyn's flames held the serpent back, while Michael unleashed the full power of the Thunder Dragon Trident, electrifying the waters and weakening the creature. Solara's control over the air created the vortex that kept it at bay, and Seraphina's magic provided the needed support to keep them safe.
Finally, with one last roar of defiance, the serpent let out a deafening cry before disappearing beneath the waves, leaving only ripples in its wake.
The group stood in silence, catching their breath.
"That was... too close," Emberlyn said, wiping sweat from her brow.
Michael glanced at his companions, each of them shaken but standing tall. "We've won this battle, but the war isn't over. We're getting closer, but we still have to find the Water Dragon Host."
Just as he spoke those words, the fog parted, revealing an island in the distance. The air was calm now, and the storm had dissipated. A calm, serene beauty radiated from the island.
"This is it," Solara said softly. "Aqualis."
They sailed toward the island, their hearts filled with both relief and anticipation. This was only the beginning of their journey. But now, they were one step closer to uniting the Dragon Hosts, and with each new ally, their strength grew.
---
As they approached the island's shores, a soft, melodic voice echoed across the water. "Welcome, Thunder Dragon Host and friends. I have been expecting you."
The voice was followed by a figure emerging from the mist—the Water Dragon Host.
She was a woman of striking beauty, her long, flowing hair as blue as the ocean, with eyes that shimmered like the depths of the sea. She moved gracefully, her every step creating ripples in the water.
"Michael," she said with a smile, "I am Nerissa, the Water Dragon Host. I have sensed the awakening of the Dragon Lords, and I too shall join the fight."
