Chapter 5 - Proving Grounds

Lisa sat at her desk, gripping the project file tightly.

Felix Zheng had just challenged her.

And she was not going to lose.

Mei hovered beside her, looking both impressed and horrified. "Lisa… you realize no newbie gets a project like this, right? Especially not from him."

Lisa exhaled, flipping through the pages. "I know."

Mei leaned closer. "So… what are you gonna do?"

Lisa shut the file and stood up. "I'm going to win."

She grabbed her laptop and headed toward the company's testing lab.

Mei gasped. "Wait, you're starting now?"

Lisa didn't slow down. "Felix Zheng wants a challenge? I'll give him one."

The Augmented Reality (AR) game was more advanced than Lisa had expected.

It was a combat simulation game where players could fight in real-time using holographic projections. The graphics were insane—realistic, smooth, and immersive.

But Lisa wasn't here to admire it. She was here to break it apart.

She strapped on the AR headset, activated the game, and started testing.

The first 30 minutes were smooth.

Then she found her first glitch.

Then another.

And another.

Lisa started taking notes. The game's enemy AI wasn't reacting fast enough. Some of the character movements lagged in high-speed battles. And worst of all, the scoring system was flawed.

She worked for hours, completely lost in the game.

She barely noticed when someone entered the lab.

But she did notice when that someone spoke.

"Not bad."

Lisa froze.

That voice.

She turned around and—of course—it was Felix Zheng.

He stood by the door, arms crossed, his sharp eyes scanning the screen behind her.

Lisa quickly removed the headset and faced him. "CEO Zheng."

Felix raised an eyebrow. "You're actually working."

Lisa frowned. "Of course, I'm working. You gave me an assignment."

He tilted his head slightly, studying her. "Most interns panic when they get a direct task from me. You look… focused."

Lisa exhaled, holding up her notepad. "I already found six major issues. I was planning to test a few more scenarios before refining my report."

Felix walked over, taking the notepad from her hands. His eyes scanned the notes quickly, his expression unreadable.

Then he did something unexpected.

He smirked.

Lisa blinked.

Did… Felix Zheng just smile at her work?

"Interesting," he murmured. Then he turned his gaze back to her. "So, tell me. What's the biggest problem with this game?"

Lisa didn't hesitate. "The enemy AI. It's too predictable. Players will get bored once they figure out the patterns."

Felix's smirk widened slightly. "And your solution?"

Lisa crossed her arms. "Adaptive difficulty. The AI should analyze the player's fighting style and adjust in real-time. Make it smarter."

Felix didn't respond immediately. He just stared at her, like he was trying to figure something out.

Finally, he handed back the notepad. "Fix the report and send it to me by midnight."

Lisa blinked. "Midnight?"

Felix's smirk returned. "What? Too much for you?"

Lisa lifted her chin. "Not at all."

Felix gave a small nod before turning to leave. "Good. Don't disappoint me, Lisa."

Lisa watched him walk away, her heart pounding.

Felix Zheng had tested her.

And she had passed
