Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: First Mission - First Misunderstanding

The sky was gray, the clouds were hanging as if they were about to pour down a rain. Under the sunset, the giant black iron gate of the Heavenly Night Academy stood tall, exuding a cold and majestic aura. The ancient patterns carved on the iron surface seemed to contain countless secrets that no one could solve.

In front of that gate, a young man wearing an old cloak stood still.

He was about 1m8 tall, his figure was a bit thin but not weak. His skin was pale like someone who had just recovered from an illness, his white hair was slightly messy, shining silver under the sunset. His eyes were bright blue, reflecting a cold, indifferent gaze as if he did not care about this world.

His name was Moc Lam.

An orphan with no status, no noble background, no remarkable talent.

He lowered his head to look at the paper in his hand—the Heavenly Night Academy registration letter. A fragile piece of paper, but it marked a major turning point in his life.

Mu Lan stood in front of the gate of Tianye Academy, feeling that the surrounding atmosphere was a bit off. The gazes directed at him were not the usual curiosity but rather carried a sense of apprehension and... fear?

He had simply come to register for admission, so why was everyone looking at him as if he had just massacred an entire village?

But never mind. The more important thing right now was to find a way to survive in this academy without being bullied.

---

As soon as he entered, a voice rang out in his head.

[System Activated...]

[Welcome to the Reputation System!]

[First Mission: Stand still for 10 seconds!]

[Reward: +10 reputation points, unlock status board.]

Mu Lan: "???"

Is it the system? But... what mission is this? Stand still for 10 seconds? Is it a joke?

So he just stood there, expressionless, eyes looking far away, looking like he was contemplating life. But he didn't know that this action was a completely different scene in the eyes of others.

---

In the distance, a group of students were whispering.

"Hey, look! Who is that guy? Why does he look so imposing?"

"Damn, did you see his eyes? Bright blue eyes that seemed to be able to see through other people's hearts..."

"And that aura! Standing still in one place but still making others feel pressured, could he be an anonymous expert?"

"Could he be a big shot from some mysterious family?"

While they were still speculating, the system in Mu Lan's head rang.

[Mission completed!]

[Received 10 reputation points.]

[Status panel unlocked.]

Mu Lan secretly rejoiced. How could he get points for something so simple? If the system was this easy, then life in the academy wouldn't be as difficult as he thought.

But that joy didn't last long before he realized a problem: the gazes of the people around him were getting stranger and stranger.

He unconsciously let out a sigh.

Boom!

The entire atmosphere seemed to freeze. Some students even took a step back.

"He... he just sighed!"

"Could it be... this academy isn't worth his attention?"

"Too scary! We absolutely can't mess with him!"

Mu Lan: "..."

Why did they react like that? He just sighed?

---

After leaving the crowd, Mu Lan quickly checked her status board.

[Status Board]

Name: Mu Lan

Level: 1

Strength: 5

Agility: 5

Physique: 5

Intelligence: 5

Right below, there was a line describing reputation:

[Reputation is a measure of the host's influence on the world. The higher the reputation, the easier it is for the host to influence others. Fame points can be earned by completing missions or by causing a great impact on the thoughts of those around him.]

Mu Lan was stunned after reading. In other words, every time he did something that others misunderstood in a grand way, he would receive fame?

Then just now...

He immediately opened the list of fame points again.

+5 points: Caused invisible pressure when standing still.

+5 points: Made others speculate about his high-class status.

He was silent. It turns out... he could earn points without doing anything?

---

The Heavenly Night Academy was a place where all kinds of students gathered: from outstanding geniuses to those who were considered "trash" with no future.

Therefore, in the eyes of many people, anyone with a strong aura was automatically placed in the ranks of geniuses.

It's just that, no one knew that this genius... was just someone who was toyed with by the system.

Mu Lan walked into the office to register for admission. The receptionist glanced at him, then quickly stood up and bowed politely:

"Hello... Are you here to register for admission?"

Mu Lan nodded in confusion.

The receptionist became even more nervous, flipping through the list hastily and hurriedly writing his name down.

"Sir... no, classmate Mu Lan, do you want to choose a high-class dormitory or rent a house outside the academy?"

"Huh? A high-class dormitory?"

"Yes, only for outstanding students or those with special status."

Mu Lan hesitated. He didn't have money to rent a house outside, and a high-class dormitory sounded convenient. So he nodded:

"Okay, I'll take a high-class room."

And so another misunderstanding began.

---

When Mu Lan walked into the high-class dormitory, many students passing by were stunned.

"What? This guy is in the high-class area?"

"No way! This area is only for geniuses!"

"Could it be... he's a monster we don't know about?"

Once again, his reputation points increased.

+10 points: Make other students believe that he has a high-class identity.

Mu Lan didn't know whether to be happy or cry.

He just wanted to live in peace, why did this world keep forcing him to play the role of the boss?
