Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Pre-Ritual Jitters

Star just expected a peaceful night of good sleep before her ritual of becoming the official Moon/Star Guardian, however, she ended up with a nightmare instead, a quite cryptic yet unsettling one. The Crystal that held the magic of her realm, Evereska, broke, the realm collapsed, the evil that has been locked away for 50 years had returned, and her best friend was corrupted somehow. She woke up gasping for air in a cold sweat, but she slowed her breathing and walked out to the Royal balcony as she sighed. A few minutes of solace passed before Star heard a voice behind her. "Can't sleep either, huh Star?" They teased. Star quickly turned to see her knight and best friend, Ghost, perfectly fine. "Yeah.." She said softly. "Hey, you alright? You seem on edge." He asked in concern. She took a small breath and summarized Ghost about her dream, the Crystal destroyed, the realm falling, the evil came back and Ghost's corruption, then she looked back at a surprised Ghost. "Oh.." He murmured. "Don't say you should've protected me, because you must remember you're not just my knight, you are my best friend." Star told him, "Besides, you can't really protect someone from their own head." Ghost's muscles tensed hearing that last comment as he traced a finger over the scar on his neck, mumbling, "I know first-hand how dangerous a mind can be.." Suddenly, the voice in Ghost's head taunted him, and this wasn't the first time either, "Soon she'll know about who you really are Ghostwave, then she'll despise you and it'll lead you the darkness you've been bound to since the start.." Ghost's eyes widened as he shouted aloud randomly, "NO!" Star looked at him quizzically, confused why he would yell out of the blue and she asked, "Ghost?" He looked back nervously, the anger replaced by anxiety, "Oh.. Sorry I um.. Though I heard something.." He lied, or well, it wasn't exactly a lie. He nervously laughed softly before he walked away quickly, holding the back of his neck. "Hm.. Did I do something? Ghost has been acting strange lately.." She pondered mentally. Ghost thought to himself, wiping a tear away, "Oh Star, if only you could know.." The next evening, Star was in her room, looking in the mirror wearing a white satin ballgown with an amethyst trim, her sapphire eyes covered by a veil that had a black rose tiara at the top that contrasted beautifully with her lavender and magenta ombre hair which was tied up in a bun. In that moment, Ghost walked in, freezing up, speechless and his cheeks felt like they were on fire when he saw Star. "Um.. Ghost??" Star asked. Ghost felt abducted by Star's beauty, not knowing what to say like a idiot, "Don't be dumb, don't be dumb, don't be dumb.." He rapidly thought to himself. That was when he noticed Star was silently squirming in her attire, remembering that she got discomfort in formal clothing. "Oh, uh, heh, you know, you don't need to look so fancy for the kingdom, you're allowed to wear your armor if you prefer that, not that you don't look gorgeous I MEAN, just, yeah I'll shut up now.." Ghost quickly stammered. Star felt flattered while hesitating, but then she said, "Alright, but get out then, I'm going to change." Ghost stiffened, his cheeks extremely red and squeaked, "Oh, right, happy to help.." With that, Ghost stumbled over his feet and fell backwards out the wide open door frame, realizing it wasn't closed. Star laughed as he hid his face in embarrassment, quickly shutting the door. "Idiot, idiot, idiot!" He muttered, only to see his twin sister, Naturefairy (who was non-binary) staring in surprise and confused, "Um, you okay brother?" They asked. "YES!" He shouted, then cleared his throat and mumbled, "I mean, yeah.." He gave his sister a crooked smile as he thought, "Why am I so fricking brain dead??" He walked away in embarrassment. TO BE CONTINUED..
