Chapter 7: Beware of Sasori
The Third Kazekage couldn't understand why Kamishiro wanted to let others know about his role as an undercover agent.
Wasn't it safer for fewer people to know about an undercover operation?
Although the Third Kazekage found it strange, he still agreed to Kamishiro's request.
After all, Kamishiro's demand wasn't difficult to meet.
Hearing the Third Kazekage's agreement, Kamishiro breathed a sigh of relief.
Although Kamishiro didn't have a good impression of Sunagakure Village, he had lived there for so long that he was attached to his shabby little cottage.
Even if his undercover mission in Konoha failed and he became a person without proper status, he wouldn't even be able to return to this shabby home.
The Third Kazekage stood up and said, "Alright, get ready. We'll start the operation tomorrow."
Kamishiro sighed resignedly and replied, "I got it."
The Third Kazekage whistled, and a ninja hawk flew into Kamishiro's house.
Guided by the Third Kazekage, Kamishiro signed a contract with the ninja hawk.
Kamishiro asked, "Uncle Kuidou, can this ninja hawk find someone?"
The Third Kazekage nodded and replied, "As long as you let it smell something with the scent of the person you're looking for, it can find that person by the smell. Well, I've got other things to do. Make your preparations. I'll come to you tomorrow noon."
When the Third Kazekage was leaving, Kamishiro couldn't help but remind him, "Uncle Kuidou, be careful of Sasori."
The Third Kazekage stopped in his tracks, turned around, and asked in confusion, "Why should I be careful of Sasori?"
Kamishiro stammered, "Well... I had a really real dream where Sasori did something bad."
Kamishiro didn't know how to tell the Third Kazekage.
He couldn't just tell the Third Kazekage that Sasori had never forgotten about avenging his Mother and Father. Konoha's White Fang, who killed his Mother and Father, had committed suicide. So Sasori transferred his hatred to the Third Kazekage. He believed that as the Village Headman of Sunagakure Village, it was your negligence that led to Konoha's attack and his Mother and Father's death. How could he tell him that?
Although the Third Kazekage had always let him be and they had met only a few times, and Kamishiro wasn't really familiar with him, after all, he was one of the few people Kamishiro knew. So Kamishiro still hoped that the Third Kazekage would survive.
But Kamishiro didn't know how to make the Third Kazekage believe him.
First of all, Kamishiro didn't know Sasori and had never met him.
Secondly, Sasori was the grandson of Chiyo, a high - ranking member of Sunagakure Village, was highly trusted, and was also a genius puppet maker.
Finally, Kamishiro only knew that the Third Kazekage should die around the full - scale start of the Third Ninja World War. It was very likely that the Third Kazekage's death was the fuse for the full - scale start of the Third Ninja World War, but he didn't know the exact date or how Sasori would kill the Third Kazekage.
Even if Kamishiro knew the day and the way Sasori would kill the Third Kazekage, the Third Kazekage might not believe him if he told him.
The Third Kazekage said in a solemn voice, "Kamishiro, Sasori is the grandson of Advisor Chiyo. He will never betray the village! Don't suspect your comrades so casually!"
Kamishiro's small face fell. He was just trying to be kind and give a warning, but he got scolded instead.
It's really like offering kindness to someone who can't appreciate it.
After the Third Kazekage left, Kamishiro felt like crying.
It was so sudden. Without any warning, he was told to become an undercover agent. If he refused, he'd be thrown into jail. They didn't even give him time to prepare. This is not how things are supposed to be.
Kamishiro rubbed his face with his hand and comforted himself, "Since I'm in this situation, I'll just make the best of it. I'm really strong. Even if I'm discovered, I'll definitely be able to turn the tables. Definitely!"
Kamishiro stood up from the chair, then lay on his stomach beside the bed and reached out his hand to feel under the bed. He pulled out a Scroll.
This Scroll was prepared by Kamishiro for Pakura.
Inside this Scroll were things that Kamishiro had spent a long time making to help Pakura get through future crises.
However, the things inside were not yet perfect. Kamishiro had been constantly improving them, so he hadn't given it to Pakura.
But even though they were imperfect, they should be enough to help Pakura through the crisis.
Now that Kamishiro was about to go undercover in Konoha as an undercover agent, it was time to give this Scroll to Pakura.
Pakura wasn't in Konoha, but the Third Kazekage had just made him sign a contract with a ninja hawk. He could have the ninja hawk send this Scroll to Pakura.
After writing a letter, Kamishiro found a coat that Pakura had left in his room before. He let the ninja hawk smell it, then tied the Scroll and the letter to the ninja hawk's body.
Kamishiro stroked the ninja hawk's head and said, "Go! You must deliver the Scroll and the letter. If the things are missing, I'll cook you and eat you!"
Animals named with the word 'ninja', such as ninja hawks, ninja dogs, and ninja cats, are intelligent and can understand human speech. So when the ninja hawk heard that Kamishiro would cook it and eat it, it immediately took two steps back, with a look of fear in its eyes.
Kamishiro glared at the ninja hawk and said, "Hurry up! Do you really want me to cook you and eat you?"
The ninja hawk let out a cry and quickly flapped its wings and flew away.
After the ninja hawk flew away, Kamishiro closed the door and lay back on the bed.
Kamishiro tossed and turned and couldn't fall asleep.
Truly, the Impermanence of Worldly Things is just like life's full of unexpected twists (a popular Chinese meme meaning life is full of surprises).
Before going to sleep, Kamishiro was still thinking about sleeping until the afternoon tomorrow and then getting up to come up with some improvement plans for Kanna.
Now, out of the blue, he had to leave for Konoha to work as an undercover agent tomorrow. How could he possibly fall asleep?
"I'm so unlucky."
But even more bad luck was yet to come.
After the Third Kazekage left, he completely forgot that Kamishiro had asked him to tell others about his undercover agent mission.
But it was also Kamishiro's fault. Who asked Kamishiro to suddenly say that Sasori was going to do something bad? Distracted by this, the Third Kazekage forgot about it.
At noon the next day.
Kamishiro stayed up all night, nervously waiting for the Third Kazekage to come to him.
And Kamishiro had packed up his things.
He sealed Kanna in the Scroll.
There was nothing else left for Kamishiro.
While waiting, Kamishiro indulged in Fantasies.
What if the Third Kazekage suddenly had diarrhea and missed the chance, so he wouldn't have to go?
Or maybe the Third Kazekage found some other poor soul to be the undercover agent?
However... what was meant to come would still come.
The Third Kazekage came into Kamishiro's room with two ninjas.
As soon as the Third Kazekage entered the room, he said to Kamishiro, "Kamishiro, it's time."
Kamishiro grumbled, "Uncle Kuidou, can you put it another way? Saying 'it's time' always makes me feel like I'm heading to the gallows!"
Kamishiro was already extremely nervous, and now he got even more jittery.
