Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 – Ambush

The day was long, but Hyun-Jin preferred it that way.

After finishing breakfast, he left the mansion and headed straight to his company, diving into his usual workload. The scent of fresh paper, expensive cologne, and polished leather filled his office as he signed documents, checked reports, and handled business calls with the sharp efficiency he was known for.

Hours passed.

By afternoon, he left for the construction site—one of his company's major projects. His black car pulled up near the towering steel framework, where workers bustled around in hard hats, the sound of machinery filling the air.

Dressed in his usual dark suit, Hyun-Jin walked through the site with a sharp gaze, inspecting every detail.

"The foundation looks solid," he remarked, turning to the project manager.

"Yes, boss," the man nodded. "We're ahead of schedule."

Hyun-Jin gave a satisfied nod and checked his watch. Time to head home.

As he got back into his car and the driver started the engine, he leaned back, closing his eyes for a brief moment. The day had been productive, but his mind kept wandering back to the strange god who had invaded his life.

Akhlys.

That annoying, mysterious, too-touchy god.

Hyun-Jin exhaled sharply. "I don't have time for this nonsense."

The car moved smoothly through the city streets, the sunset casting golden hues over the skyline. But just as they neared a quieter road leading to his mansion, his driver stiffened.

"Boss, we're being followed."

Hyun-Jin's black eyes snapped open. "How many?"

"One car. Been trailing us for a while."

Hyun-Jin turned his head slightly, catching a glimpse of the dark sedan through the side mirror. Its tinted windows made it impossible to see inside.

His fingers tapped against the armrest, his mind already racing.

"Take a different route."

The driver nodded, making an unexpected turn onto a less-traveled road.

The sedan followed.

"Tch." Hyun-Jin's expression darkened. They weren't just driving in the same direction. They were targeting him.

"Step on it."

The car accelerated.

So did the one behind them.

Hyun-Jin's jaw tightened. He reached into his suit, fingers brushing against the cool metal of his gun.

If they wanted to play, he'd give them hell.

Without hesitation, he rolled down the window, aimed, and fired.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

The bullets shattered the sedan's windshield. The driver lost control, and the car swerved violently before flipping over, crashing onto the road in a mess of smoke and twisted metal.

The driver smirked. "Nice shot, boss."

But before Hyun-Jin could respond—

A massive vehicle appeared out of nowhere.

A truck.

And it was coming straight at them.

"BOSS—!"

CRASH!

The impact was brutal. Metal screeched. The world spun.

Hyun-Jin barely had time to react before his car flipped over, slamming onto the road with a sickening force.

Darkness momentarily consumed his vision.

The smell of gasoline filled the air.

Somewhere in the distance, he heard footsteps approaching.

And then—

A voice.

Cold. Ruthless.

"Take him."

Hyun-Jin's fingers twitched, reaching for his gun—

But before he could move, pain exploded in his skull.

Then, everything went black.
