He found himself in a dilapidated warehouse, its corrugated iron roof riddled with holes, letting in slivers of moonlight. The air was thick with the smell of rust and decay. In the center of the warehouse, a group of figures huddled around a flickering lantern. Their faces were etched with desperation, their eyes gleaming with a strange intensity.
Kai recognized them: the Unbound, those who had rejected the System, or been rejected by it. They were outcasts, living on the fringes of society, clinging to the remnants of a life untouched by the System's power.
He approached them cautiously, his footsteps echoing in the cavernous space. "What are you doing?" he asked, his voice barely a whisper.
A woman with eyes like chips of obsidian turned to him. "We listen," she said, her voice raspy. "We listen to the whispers of the Void."
Kai frowned. "The Void?"
"The space between the Systems," she explained. "The place where the System's light cannot reach. It speaks to us, if you know how to listen."
Kai felt a shiver run down his spine. The Void sounded dangerous, forbidden. But he was desperate. He had nothing to lose.
"How do I listen?" he asked.
The woman smiled, a chilling, predatory smile. "You must open yourself to the darkness," she said. "You must embrace the silence."
She led him to the center of the circle, where a strange, pulsating energy thrummed beneath the cracked concrete floor. "Close your eyes," she instructed. "Empty your mind. Let the Void speak to you."
Kai closed his eyes, his heart pounding in his chest. He felt a coldness creeping into his bones, a sense of emptiness that threatened to consume him. And then, he heard it: a whisper, a faint, ethereal voice that seemed to come from the very depths of his soul.
