(Note: This story features a single female lead—Takatsuki Izumi (real name: Yoshimura Eto).)
...
Tokyo, Japan.
"I really ended up in another world..."
Staring at the unfamiliar cityscape before him, Yuu Itsuka muttered under his breath.
He had already pieced together his situation. In his previous life, he had been hit by a speeding truck, and in the blink of an eye, he found himself transported to the world of Tokyo Ghoul.
It was still Earth, but different from the one he knew. The biggest difference? This world was crawling with terrifying beings that fed on human flesh—ghouls.
Physically superior to normal humans, ghouls made this world an incredibly dangerous place to live.
Of course, as a transmigrator, Yuu had what every protagonist needed: a CHEAT!
The Mangekyō Sharingan: Kamui!
To be precise, he possessed Double Kamui—a rare and powerful ability.
As Yuu willed it, his normally dark pupils transformed into blood-red orbs, each adorned with three tomoe arranged in a distinctive pattern. The power of both Kamui eyes lay within him. With another thought, his eyes reverted to their natural black.
And that wasn't all.
He also had a system. It was thanks to this system that he had both Mangekyō Sharingan and the power of Kamui.
"Yuu, how are you feeling about work so far?"
A voice interrupted his thoughts. Yuu turned to see Shunji Shiono, one of his senior colleagues. He nodded and gave a polite smile.
"I'm doing fine. Thank you for asking, Shiono-senpai."
That's right—Yuu was currently working at a publishing house called Shoeisha as a rookie editor.
However, his real identity was a CCG investigator. His current mission was to infiltrate Shoeisha and investigate potential ghoul activity.
The Commission of Counter Ghoul (CCG) was a government organization dedicated to fighting against ghouls. Their full name was the Ghoul Countermeasures Bureau, an agency responsible for investigating and eliminating ghoul-related threats.
Shiono sighed as he sat back in his chair.
"Oh, it's great to be young. Just now, a girl came to see me—she's really young. I admire her confidence, but what could someone her age possibly write? And she brought this huge manuscript… who's going to read all that?"
A girl?
Yuu's eyes narrowed slightly. He immediately turned to Shiono.
"Shiono-senpai, can I take a look at her manuscript?"
If he was right, that girl was Yoshimura Eto—the one who would later become the famous author Takatsuki Izumi.
"Huh? That little girl's manuscript? It's a thick stack. If you want, you can take it."
Shiono handed over the large pile of papers to Yuu without a second thought.
He hadn't taken the manuscript seriously at all.
To him, it was just the work of a newbie—probably some self-indulgent writing that no one would care about. He hadn't even bothered to read it.
"Alright. Thanks, Shiono-senpai."
Yuu accepted the manuscript.
Truthfully, he could interact normally with Shiono only because the system had granted him native-level Japanese fluency.
Flipping through the pages, he confirmed it—this was the original handwritten draft of To Kafka, Eto's debut novel.
It was hundreds of pages long, all written by hand.
In his past life, Yuu had been a web novelist and typed everything on a computer. Writing by hand was painstakingly slow.
It was hard to imagine how long Eto had spent crafting this story...
[Ding! The host has obtained the special item "The First Draft of To Kafka," activating the hidden mission "Genius Writer Takatsuki Izumi"!]
A system notification suddenly popped up in Yuu's mind, catching him off guard.
A hidden mission...?
Immediately, three mission objectives appeared before his eyes—visible only to him.
[Mission 1: Become Yoshimura Eto's Editor-in-Chief]
[Time Limit: Three Days]
[Reward: 10 Attribute Points]
This mission wouldn't be too difficult.
And the reward—attribute points—was incredibly valuable.
Yuu suddenly had an idea and summoned his status panel.
[Status Panel]
Host: Yuu Itsuka
Race: Half-Human
Affiliation: CCG Investigator (Public), Secretly a Half-Human of the Sunlit Garden
Age: 18
Physique: 20 (The average for a healthy human is 10.)
RC Cell Count: 500 (The average human has 200–500.)
Current Attribute Points: 0
From his stats, it was clear:
Yuu wasn't fully human. He was a half-human.
Half-humans were born from a human-ghoul hybrid bloodline. Their RC cell levels were higher than normal humans, granting them enhanced physical abilities, but they didn't have a ghoul's full regenerative power.
RC cells were a unique type of cell present in both ghouls and humans. They acted like liquid energy, harder than human teeth, and were stored in an organ called the Kakuhou in ghouls.
As a half-human, Yuu lacked a Kakuhou, meaning he didn't have kagune or regenerative abilities.
Additionally, since he didn't have chakra, the system had modified his Mangekyō Sharingan to consume RC cells instead.
The problem?
Using Kamui rapidly drained RC cells.
Even Obito Uchiha, who had Hashirama's cells, struggled with Mangekyō Sharingan overuse. Yuu didn't have such luxuries.
With his current RC count of 500, using Double Kamui recklessly would cripple him in seconds.
If he wanted to use Susanoo in the future, he needed way more RC cells.
Moreover, his "Physique" stat played a major role—it determined his body's ability to regenerate RC cells and recover Mangekyō power.
Unlike ghouls, Yuu refused to eat human flesh.
Thus, increasing his Physique was crucial to maintain his power without resorting to cannibalism.
But getting attribute points wasn't easy…
[Ding! The host has received a "Newbie Gift Pack." Would you like to open it?]
A Newbie Gift Pack?
Yuu's eyes lit up. Without hesitation, he selected "Yes."
[Ding! You have opened the "Newbie Gift Pack" and received: 100 Attribute Points + System Store Unlock!]
100 free attribute points? Not bad!
However, Yuu decided not to assign them immediately. He needed to balance RC cells and Physique carefully—rushing in blindly would be foolish.
Aside from the gift pack, he could earn attribute points through:
Daily system sign-ins
Completing system missions
Defeating ghouls (or humans)
Killing wasn't something he took lightly.
He wouldn't murder innocent people, nor would he indiscriminately kill ghouls.
Some ghouls only ate corpses to survive, without harming humans. Yuu had no reason to hunt them down.
His principle was simple: He would not kill the innocent—whether human or ghoul.
As Yuu pondered, Shiono spoke up again.
"I'd advise you not to waste too much time on that manuscript. Your priority should be your internship evaluation. Good luck, kid."
Yuu nodded without arguing.
In the original timeline, Shiono had nearly thrown away Eto's manuscript, dismissing it as trash.
Only another editor's intervention saved it from being lost forever.
This time, however—Yuu had taken it first.
Stuffing the thick manuscript into his bag, he left the office.
There was no doubt about it.
He was going to find Yoshimura Eto.
