Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - He’s Back

Swish—snap, swish—snap.

A slender figure sat before a pottery wheel, deeply engrossed in her creation. The spinning disc in front of her never slowed, its steady rotation a testament to her unwavering concentration. This enigmatic woman poured her soul into her work, shaping each piece with delicate precision.

The studio, nestled within a quiet alley, was once an abandoned kindergarten. The owner, Ji Yuntong, had transformed it into a space that not only displayed artwork but also provided ample room for students to learn and create.

Despite being in the heart of the city, the location was serene. With charming cafés surrounding the area instead of residential buildings, the atmosphere remained tranquil and undisturbed.

Ding-ling, ding-ling—

The chime of the doorbell echoed as the entrance swung open. A tall, handsome man stepped inside. His sharp, refined features were accentuated by the thin-framed glasses he wore, exuding an air of sophistication. Yet, his casual attire—a simple T-shirt, leather jacket, and relaxed black pants—gave him the effortless charm of a mature yet youthful college student.

"Welcome! Let me know if you need anything. Are you looking for a custom order, or would you like to browse first?"

Cao Mo, the staff member at the front desk, was momentarily stunned by the man's striking appearance. She only snapped back to reality when he approached the counter, quickly regaining her composure with a bright smile.

"I'm here to see your boss," the man spoke in a deep, magnetic voice.

Cao Mo nearly lost herself in his tone but managed to respond promptly, "The boss is currently occupied. If you have a message, I can pass it along."

"Can I wait here for her?"

"Of course! There's a sofa over there. You're welcome to sit, but it might take some time. She's in the middle of finishing a custom piece, and I'm not sure when she'll be free."

"No problem. I'll wait." With that, he strode toward the window-side sofa and settled in.

Seeing his determination, Cao Mo hurried into the workshop to inform her boss about the unexpected visitor.

Inside the studio, Ji Yuntong was meticulously using a wire cutter to separate the clay form from the wheel. After placing the piece on a drying rack, she took a moment to pause. Seeing the opportunity, Cao Mo quickly relayed the news.

"There's a really handsome guy here to see you!"

Ji Yuntong frowned slightly, puzzled. "Handsome guy?"

"Yes! Super handsome! He's wearing glasses, has a strong presence, and gives off a cold yet casual vibe. Vida, when did you meet someone like him? Why haven't you told me?"

Cao Mo was the only employee at the studio. She was outgoing and lively, handling various store affairs, while Ji Yuntong, though approachable, had a calm demeanor. Staff and students affectionately called her Vida, a name she had used professionally since her university days. Whether for commissions or other business matters, people only knew her as Vida—her real name remained a mystery to most.

"I have no idea who you're talking about. How am I supposed to explain?" Ji Yuntong responded helplessly.

"Well, go meet him and find out! Take a break while you can. There's still a ton of work waiting for you later!" Cao Mo urged.

"Alright, alright, but let me wash my hands first." Ji Yuntong made her way to the sink, rinsed the clay from her fingers, then finally prepared to meet the visitor.

As she stepped into the front area and laid eyes on the man, she froze.

It was him.

He was back.

Ji Yuntong locked eyes with Bai Hanan. He, too, was looking directly at her. His deep gaze carried an unspoken storm of emotions, leaving her momentarily at a loss.

"It's been a while, Tong-jie." His voice, low and steady, reached her ears as he stood and approached.

"…Long time no see, Hanan." She responded, her tone slightly tense.

Bai Hanan was three years younger than her—her younger sister's friend. They had played together since kindergarten, their families close enough to frequently visit each other. Ji Yuntong knew him well.

"Jie, how about grabbing a drink with me?" Bai Hanan asked, a small smile playing on his lips.

"Alright, give me a moment." Ji Yuntong turned to inform Cao Mo that she would be stepping out for a while, reminding her to take care of the store.

Grabbing her bag, she walked toward Bai Hanan and said, "Let's go."

With that, she led the way out of the studio.
